Hair color ideas 2020

Hair color ideas 2020 DEFAULT

If you’re like me, you’ve spent the past two weeks convincing yourself you need a new hair color (or bangs. For real, though, should I get bangs?). And if you reaaally can’t wait until you can see a professional colorist (they’re professionals for a reason, people!), you might as well have some direction before you f*ck it all to hell and buy some box dye. Lucky for you, I’ve spent a dumb amount of time combing through Instagram to find the prettiest hair color trends of 2020 for the ultimate inspiration. So buckle up, take notes, and start prepping for your new look, ahead. Just promise me you’ll read up on coloring your hair at home before you DIY anything (tip: anything more than two shades darker or one shade lighter requires a pro), k?

2This Glossy-Brown Hair Color Trend

Juuust a tad lighter than black, this super-rich brown hair color is all about shine and dimension. Rather than recreating this 2020 trend with box dye, try experimenting with an at-home gloss (Kristin Ess Signature Hair Gloss is my personal fave) to pump up your shine.

5Lilac Hair for 2020

Even though it might feel like everyone and their mom has dyed their hair a lilac color, this hair color trend isn’t going anywhere in 2020. So if you haven’t hopped on the bandwagon just yet, there’s still time to rock the super-pretty purple hue. Be sure to do a weekly mask to neutralize any brassy tones.

7Demi Lovato’s Dip-Dye Ends for 2020

Think of these dip-dye ends as the cooler version of the ones you tried to create in your kitchen using Kool-Aid. It’s the perfect way to add a bright color to your lookwithout having to dye your entire head. Style it like Demi does here and bump the ends with a curling wand to give your hair a cute shape.

1. Chocolate and Caramel Balayage. A perfect example inspired by your favorite desserts – the color melting creates a delicious color blend you can’t look away.

2. Brunette Hair with Auburn Highlights. Warm up your dark hair by going for reddish brown highlights. You can have chunkier pieces of color or thinner ones – depending on your style.

3. Sun-Kissed Hair. Go for light brown and warm blonde highlights to get that perfect sun-kissed look.

4. Dark Hair with Auburn Highlights. Looking for awesome hair color ideas to spice up your brunette hair? Try adding some reddish-brown highlights. Feel free to experiment – add thinner pieces of color or chunkier ones, or both!

5. Partial Caramel Highlights. With partial caramel highlights, the hair will appear more textured and glowy. If you are a brunette, you will definitely benefit from this delicious hue, as it is flattering and natural-looking!

6. Dark Chocolate Locks. We love this two-tone dark chocolate color because it adds so much depth and dimension.

7. Sandy Blonde Balayage. Hair color trends 2021 are all about adding a twist to your regular look. The sandy balayage is a great way to refresh your style and get that summery feel, no matter the season.

Hair colours Trends 2020/2021

We asked the hair pros their predictions for this summer's biggest shades, they said there's two camps. There's the rebels, who after a winter inside with the same hair shade, want to go brighter, bolder, braver and a little more risque for summer. On the flip side, cautious colour has been given a phwoarr makeover with pretty, natural shades like sand, biscuit brunette and undone blonde all taking off in a big way.

Hair queen J-Lo has just switched to the latter. Though she's not known for sticking to the same shade for too long, she recently traded in her creamy blonde strands...

...in favour of what her celeb hair colourist, Tracey Cunningham, has dubbed "golden bronze". The pro used Redken lowlights and plenty of condition-boosting treatments such as glosses and Olaplex to give the star her new look.

The singer debuted the warmer, rootier bronze for her latest music video, Cambia El Paso.

And she's not alone. Khloe Kardashian, Hailey Bieber and Pixie Lott have all returned to their roots with glossier versions of their natural hair colours recently.

Mousy hair is back and sexier than ever. Just ask Kim Kardashian, the shades latest convert...

But for those wanting something fresh and a little braver, bombshell colours like atomic blonde (which Poppy Delevingne is currently repping), offer a fierce colour upgrade. In fact, brighter blondes have been the biggest trend customers are asking for according to top hairstylist, Harriet Muldoon at Larry King.

Along with brights, we've seen bolds with clever colour techniques, such as colourful face-framing, offering an entry level into crazy shades. And, for a change from blonde and brunette, fiery copper is emerging as one of the biggest hair colour trends for summer with Bridgerton's Phoebe Dynevor, Gigi Hadid and singer Jorja Smith all getting stuck in.

Just in time for any dramatic colour changes, cult-favourite haircare brand Olaplex launched a brand new product in their multi-step regime earlier in the year, making it easier than ever to care for coloured hair and get the most out of your dye job. Olaplex No. 8 is a 4-in-1 restorative mask infused with that iconic patented Olaplex Bond Building technology, that promises to provide the hair with intense moisture, add volume, smoothness, body and shine. It's also a good idea to switch to sulphate free shampoos to maintain the brightest colour result.

If you're not quite ready for a full-on colour shift, mix things up with a new style and give these braids a go, or amp up your hair accessories. According to the latest Pinterest data, searches for clips are up by 930%, while scrunchies are up a staggering 6309%.
