Be Smart, Check in Advance. CARFAX — Your Vehicle History.

CARFAX — Your Vehicle History Expert

Sometimes what you don't know can't hurt you, but that's not the case when buying a used car. As an independent vehicle history provider, at CARFAX we've made it our mission to tell you everything you need to know by uncovering as many events as possible from the previous life of a used car. Our primary goal is to help you get to know your next car from the inside out before deciding to make an investment that will be part of you and your family's everyday life. We believe your next car shouldn't be hiding anything from you.

CARFAX Vehicle History Reports contain over 28 billion historical records from 20 European countries, the US and Canada, which are updated daily with new information.

Even if you live in a country we don't collect vehicle data from, it's still always worth checking the Vehicle Identification Number without obligation. The used car import and export market is booming and many owners would be surprised to find out exactly what happened to their vehicle during its previous life abroad.

Privacy for Customers — Transparency over Vehicles

Let's be clear: Although we strive to find every detail of a vehicle's life so far, we are focused only on the vehicle's history, and do not collect any information on previous owners. The information we provide relates solely to the vehicle, its odometer reading, any accidents that have been covered up, where the vehicle comes from and much more — it never gets personal. We've uncovered irreparable damage several times in the past, but other times our vehicle history checks draw a blank — and sometimes that's actually a good thing.

Second Hand — Not Second Best

Did you know that considerably more used cars are sold than new cars? We think this second-hand system is nothing short of fantastic. However, it goes without saying that it gives rise to different methods and tactics: Some sellers will disguise a car that's been in an accident under a fresh coat of paint, tamper with the odometer or conceal theft. This is one of the less appealing aspects of buying second hand. Our goal is to establish trusting relationships between buyers and sellers, since this is the best way to help customers make the right decision. Your new car should be reliable and make you feel safe, as well as make you feel like you haven't paid too much.

But more than anything else, we don't want you or your family unknowingly sitting behind the wheel of a vehicle that isn't 100% safe. This is why we strive to take these vehicles off the road, which not only makes the used car market safer but our streets safer too.

CARFAX — 35+ Years of Experience in Vehicle Histories

CARFAX was founded in the US in 1984 and expanded into Europe in 2007. Around 100 team members spread across six European offices process vehicle information from 22 countries.

Fostering strategic partnerships with registration authorities, law enforcement agencies, government departments, insurance companies, inspection centers and numerous other leading companies around the world has enabled us to compile a unique international database for vehicle histories. We use this database to help make the used car market more transparent. We give everyone in the process of buying a used car access to what is currently the world's most comprehensive source for vehicle history reports, and is growing day by day.

We remain neutral and independent despite our partnerships — our sole purpose is help customers make an informed choice and ensure their safety and the safety of their family. This includes never collecting any personal details — we do not accept any PII from data sources amongst the information we provide about a vehicle. We ensure that data protection laws are observed at all times. Furthermore, we always collect our data in compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks — in all the countries in which we are active. We expressly distance ourselves from illegal activities such as data theft, scraping and hacking.

2004 Honda Accord - Reliable

I recently received my dad's Honda Accord, and it was quite the upgrade from my Saturn Ion. The gas mileage is better, it has more features, and is just generally a nicer car. I love driving whether it's a short drive to work or a longer drive on the interstate. I know that I'll be able to drive this for quite some time thanks to its low mileage on the odometer. I could easily get close to 8 more years out of it. Being a college student, that is extremely helpful since my financial situation is lacking.

My favorite thing about this car is how smooth it rides. It is a very nice ride no matter what kind of quality the road is. I also really enjoy having power windows and a sun roof. It's a minor feature, but it's a really nice thing to have when the weather is nice. It also has plenty of trunk space, which makes transporting larger items a breeze. The storage inside the car is also nice, and provides me with places to store my wallet, phone, etc. Lastly, the reliability and mileage are the biggest pros. It's such a well respected car and meets every performance standard that I could ask for.

The light on the radio display is out. It's been out every since I got the car. Also, there has been an issue with the airbag in my steering wheel. I got notified of a recall and will have to take the car in to get it fixed. I'm also not fond of the floor mats. They're easily dirtied, and are extremely hard to keep clean because of the material they are made of. I also wish that the headlights provided a little bit better visibility. I've considered installing LED headlights to improve my vision at night. Lastly, The AC isn't very powerful nor is it very cold, which makes hot summer days u... (more)

2004 Honda Accord - Meh

This is my first car. I was so excited about it at first, but there have been so many issues; the hood paint came off, the brakes and the alignment are always off, and it is too low to the ground. With everything comes some good; it gets great gas mileage, I can fill up my tank for 20 dollars, it is very comfortable inside and the air works amazingly. I think that this is an ok first car, but I would not recommend it to anyone. I was impressed to the fact that I made it all the way from Georgia to Florida with only stopping for gas twice. I think that was amazing. The mileage is in the 100000's but it has been driven a good bit. I got it after my graduation from high school. There is ample trunk space but the back seat is often too small. With the car being so low to the ground it is h... (more)

There is ample trunk space but the back seat is often too small. With the car being so low to the ground it is hard to be able to have many people in the car. I think this is why there have been so many mechanical issues because there are speed bumps everywhere that I live. I recently looked into getting canoe racks put on top of my car.

We went to Florida to go to Disney World and that little car got us everywhere where we needed to be. Now mind you, we did get a flat on the highway on the way there, but the trunk was big enough for our bags and a spare tire.
