I've put on a Rhino Racks Aero rack with a Thule Bike mount. Works pretty well and with the sunroof shield closed it's barely louder than stock. I've not removed it since I've installed it, but when I do, I'll probably be putting some paint protection film at the contact points. I've not had a roof rack before and if the Si could take a hitch, I'd have done that. Hitch mount bike racks are the best scenario to transport bikes. I had a hitch on my 8th Gen Si with a hitch bike rack and it worked great.

Best Roof Rack for Honda Civic to Safely Carry Bulky Items

Factors to Consider When Buying the Best Roof Rack for Honda Civic

1. Type of racks

When looking for the best roof rack for Honda civic, the type of rack is an essential consideration. They're usually different types of roof racks depending on the cargo you are planning to carry on. The following are the most popular racks for Honda civic:

Usually carry ordinary family luggage with an extended storage capacity that does not restrict what you carry with you. This type of roof rack usually comes in a cargo basket, cargo box, or cargo bag where each of them has its suitability.

Cargo baskets are usually suitable for off-road traveling because they are tough to withstand the rough off-road conditions. For cargo bags, they offer enough storage space at an affordable rate. Conversely, cargo boxes are ideal for storing any cargo you require dry, such as skis and boards.

As the name suggests, this type of rack is used to carry bikes. So, if you have a bike and want to bring it with you while traveling, this unit will be perfect for you. You can mount these bike racks on the roof, spare tire, pick-up bed, trunk, and a trailer hitch. Besides, Each bike rack can hold a single bike; however, you can use multiple bike racks if necessary.

This roof rack is designed to transport your kayak or canoe on the roof of your car using existing roof bars. Canoe and kayaks usually make transporting your boat simple. So, when using a rooftop kayak or canoe to transport your boat, ensure to secure the boat properly and occasionally stop during your travel to ensure it hasn't loosened up.

The snowboard and ski racks easily mount to your car's roof rack to allow you to easily and safely transport your snowboards or skis. When choosing a snowboard or ski rack, consider the number of snowboards or skis you need to transport, how often you'll use the rack and whether you will store anything else on the roof.

2. Rack material

When looking for the best roof rack for Honda Civic, remember to consider the rack material. The best roof rack is made with sturdy and lightweight material. Also, considering the roof rack will be exposed to harsh exterior environment conditions and heavy loads, it must be sturdy for reliability and durability. Therefore, the racks are constructed with heavy-duty alloy steel on our best roof rack list to endure harsh weather conditions and aluminum for lightweight, strength, and durability.

3. Base roof rack systems

Before buying the best roof rack for Honda Civic, we recommend considering the roof-rack system for your Honda car. For instance, you'll need sturdy cross-bars or roof rails to support the rack and the carrier of your choice. Additionally, the base roof rack system should be multi-functional to allow different rack and cargo carriers for different cargo.

4. The weight limit

We recommend you check the maximum weight the roof rack can hold to avoid damaging your car because roof racks have few contact points on the roof, making it easy to distribute the luggage's weight evenly. Conversely, the even distribution of rack weight will ensure that your Honda Civic withstands the extra weight without its roof getting damaged. Also, it's important to ensure that your roof rack can stand up wind-exerted stress on the roof luggage when driving at high speeds.

5. Aerodynamics

It's essential to consider whether the roof rack has an aerodynamic system or not. We recommend you to look for a roof rack that is aerodynamic for reduced stress on the car's movement and rooftop. Since a roof rack acts as a wind barrier, it might increase your vehicle's drag, leading to increased fuel consumption. However, roof racks are usually designed to allow air to flow under and over the rack evenly. With such aerodynamic systems, your car's drag will reduce and prevent the luggage from lifting off the car while in motion.

How Do You Install A Roof Rack on Your Honda Civic?

After buying the best Honda Civic roof racks, you will need to know how to mount them. Although it might seem complex, mounting a roof rack on a Honda civic is very simple. Here are four steps to follow.

Step 1: Open the roof rack package and remove everything inside. In some scenarios, your roof rack will come assembled already. However, if not, follow the given instructions to assemble the roof rack properly.

Step 2: Then, go ahead and attach the cross-bars to the top of your car. Since you don't require any drilling, you won't risk damaging your vehicle. The SportRack Complete Roof Rack System usually mounts fast and easily.

Step 3: Now, take your rack and firmly secure it to the car's SportRack Roof Rack System. To get started, take your mounting clamps and ensure that everything is firmly secure.

Step 4: Finally, you have a roof rack that is firmly mounted on your Honda Civic. However, to ensure that everything is fine, it is wise to take a small drive around your neighborhood or a similar location. Although this might seem like much work, it is a great way to ensure you have firmly mounted your new roof rack.

Frequently Asked Questions on the Best Roof Racks for Honda Civic

It was also important that we chose roof racks for Honda Civics that give you plenty of options. Some of the picks in our list will take up lots of roof space. Other roof racks we’ve chosen will give you space for ski racks, bike racks, and other items.

Without any further introduction, here’s a look at the best Honda Civic roof racks.

Thule Canyon XT Cargo Basket - #1 Pick for a Honda Civic Roof Rack:

One of the best roof boxes for a Honda Civic is the Thule Canyon XT Cargo Basket. This Honda Civic roof rack from Thule features a unique, wedge-shaped design. It also features tapered sidewalls. When combined, the sidewalls and low profile make this item incredibly easy to load and unload.

This roof rack features a total weight capacity of lbs, making it great for many light items or a few heavier ones. What's great about this Thule roof box is that it's able to fit many vehicles, including Honda Civics. This rack is a great Honda Civic roof rack while also being great for older models.

The Thule Canyon XT weighs a total of 29 lbs. It's 41 inches long, 35 inches wide, and 5 inches tall.

ARKSEN Roof Rack Cargo Carrier:

If you're looking for a roof rack and need some options, consider the ARKSEN Roof Rack Cargo Carrier. This roof box is available in a few different sizes. These sizes include inch, inch, and inch roof racks.

These roof racks are a little larger than the Thule Canyon XT. Considering that, this list item might not be the best Honda Civic hatchback roof rack. The longer length of these racks should still fit on a hatchback. But you might be giving up easy access to your vehicle's trunk. If you don't mind that, this roof rack is a great storage solution.

Made from steel, you can rest assured that this roof rack will provide you with a secure place to store your most important items. Plus, the black powder finish of this roof rack should turn heads wherever you go. Many reviewers also note that this roof rack is incredibly quiet, thanks to its steel wind fairing.

This roof rack weighs just a little over 8 pounds. It's 64 inches long, 39 inches wide, and 6 inches tall. The Thule Canyon XT is also a great Honda Civic roof rack.

MAXXHAUL Steel Roof Rack:

Another popular roof rack for Audi owners comes from MAXXHAUL. The MAXHAUL Steel Roof Rack is an excellent way to add a little more storage space to your Honda Civic. This roof rack comes with assembly and mounting hardware, ensuring it doesn’t wobble while you’re driving.

Speaking of installation, the MAXXHAUL Steel Roof Rack is very easy to install and mount. This roof rack also features a rust-resistant finish, which means you won’t have to worry about this item getting damaged by a little rain or snow. Reviewers also enjoy that this roof rack comes with rubber caps that cover this item’s U-bolts. This small but important feature helps prevent your cargo from getting damaged.

The MAXXHaul Steel Roof Rack weighs 25 pounds. Its dimensions are inches long, inches wide, and inches tall.

CURT Cargo Carrier - A Great Honda Civic Roof Rack:

If our previously mentioned picks aren’t for you, consider the CURT Roof Rack Cargo Carrier. This roof rack features 4-inch walls to help ensure your items remain securely in place. On the front of this item, you’ll find a windshield. No, this isn’t the traditional type of windshield you’re thinking of. Instead, this roof rack features a sloped front to help reduce high wind speeds from hitting your items.

Unlike other roof racks, it’s important to note that this item is not pre-assembled. This means that you’ll need to put it together before using it. However, the instructions are easy to follow and the assembly time is extremely short. In a matter of minutes, you’ll have a fully put together roof rack.

Made from durable tubular steel, the CURT Cargo Roof Rack provides superior protection. Plus, this roof rack features a carbide powder coat. With this coating, you won’t have to worry about moisture or rainfall rusting out your roof rack.

A key standout feature of this roof rack is that it’s expandable. Having an expandable roof rack is great when you need the maximum amount of space. With that said, you will need the CURT Rack Extension to take advantage of your roof rack’s expandability. If you need more than 11 square feet of space, we recommend buying the rack extension. Instead of 11 square feet, this rack extension upgrades your space to almost 17 square feet of room.

Leader Accessories Upgraded Roof Rack:

We couldn’t end this list without mentioning another roof rack that’s gaining lots of popularity. The Leader Accessories Upgraded Roof Rack has almost everything you could want from one of these items. This roof rack is one of the most durable on this list, featuring steel bars that have a 1-inch diameter of thickness. If you need a roof rack with variable storage space, we highly recommend the Leader Accessories Upgraded Roof Rack.

Being that this is such a sturdy roof rack, it’s capable of holding up to lbs of cargo. It also features a wind fairing design that helps to eliminate wind-related noise while you’re driving. While unextended, this roof rack is 43 inches long, 39 inches wide, and 5 inches tall. Extended, the length of this roof rack changes from 43 inches to 64 inches in length!

Mockins Roof Rack Cargo Carrier With Bungee Net and Cargo Bag:

Sometimes, you want your valuable items to receive maximum protection. If you want extra peace of mind while driving with a Honda Civic roof rack, consider the Mockins Roof Rack Cargo Carrier.

What’s also cool about this item is that it can extend. Fully extended, the Mockins Roof Rack Cargo Carrier is 64 inches long. With that said, this might be a bit too long for a Honda Civic. However, the unextended inch length of this roof rack should provide more than enough storage space. This roof rack is made from heavy-duty steel, making it both durable and resistant to rust or other types of wear.

Many reviewers also enjoyed this item’s accessories. The Mockins Roof Rack Cargo Carrier comes with a cargo bag and bungee net. The roof cargo bag is 44 inches long, 34 inches wide, and 18 inches tall. This means the cargo bag will only fit this roof rack while it’s not extended. It’s also important to note that this item features a bungee net. This net provides even more assurance that your stored items aren’t going anywhere while you’re driving.

This particular roof rack also has one of the highest side rails available. With 6-inch side rails, you shouldn’t fret over anything falling out of your roof rack. As many other roof racks in this list feature, this item also has a rust-free coating.

The one drawback of this item is that it’s one of the heavier roof racks on the market, weighing in at lbs. So, you’ll want to definitely have someone help you install this roof rack on your Honda Civic. The dimensions of this roof rack are inches in length and 26 inches in width. It’s inches tall.

Can You Put a Roof Rack on a Honda Civic?

Yes, you can put a roof rack on top of a Honda Civic. With that said, it’s a good idea to follow a few steps before buying one of these items. The first step is to get something that will support your new roof rack. Without this, you won’t be able to attach your roof rack to a Honda Civic’s bare roof.

We recommend the SportRack Complete Roof Rack System. This device was made for smaller SUVs and cars that don’t often have roof rails. Made from steel, you can rest assured that this item will provide adequate support for your roof rack.

Next, measure the dimensions of your Honda Civic’s roof. It’s understandable to assume that all Honda Civic roofs have the same measurements. This is a crucial step to help you avoid buying a roof rack that’s too big or too wide for your Honda Civic.

With that said, Honda and other automobile manufacturers slightly change model sizes each year. By measuring the roof of your automobile, you’ll know which racks are too large or small for your vehicle. Because of its size and design, it’s easiest to install a Honda Civic roof rack.

To learn how much you can fit inside of your new roof rack, it’s also wise to measure what you’re going to place in it. You don’t want to assume your skis or snowboards will fit, only to find that this isn’t the case. While it isn’t the most convenient thing in the world to do, measuring your items will save you a lot of headaches in the future.

How to Install the Yakima BaseLine CoreBar Roof Rack by Rack Attack

For your active family, a roof rack turns your vehicle into a versatile, ready-for-anything, trip-taking machine. Although many cars and SUVs come with basic roof racks standard, if your car isn&#;t equipped yet, you can install one yourself.

Your car may have a bare roof (no rack at all), roof rails (no crossbars) or a full rack, but no matter what you&#;re starting with, with these tips, you&#;ll quickly have your gear loaded and ready for your next family adventure.

1. Full Roof RackRoof Rack with Multiple Bicycles Attached

If your vehicle is equipped with roof rails and crossbars, then your mission is already mostly accomplished. The only thing you&#;ll need are gear adapters. To transport a bike or a kayak, for example, specific adapters clamp to your existing crossbars.

Installation takes just a few minutes and requires little more than basic tools or possibly no tools at all. Some automakers, such as Subaru, sell individual components to make transporting your equipment even easier. After installation, load your gear per the instructions included with the adapters.

2. RoofRailsOnly

Roof rails on top of your car are really only one step away from a full roof rack. The missing ingredient is a pair of crossbars. Your automaker probably has crossbars that are made for your specific make and model, but aftermarket crossbars, which clamp to your existing roof rails, are most likely available as well. To attach them, just use the supplied tool or a grab a set of basic hand tools. Once the crossbars are in place, you&#;ll need to look for the appropriate adapters to mount the specific gear you&#;re hauling.

3. Bare Roof

Even if you start with nothing but a bare roof, factory and aftermarket options can get you and your gear on the road with little fuss. Factory roof racks often require templates and drilling, which your service center can usually provide. On the other hand, with a good set of tools, factory instructions and patience, you can install a set of factory roof racks in about an hour.

Factory roof racks aside, there are other options. Bolt-on roof racks will require careful planning and execution, especially with regards to waterproofing. Clamp-on roof racks don&#;t require any drilling and are easy to mount and unmount when you don&#;t need them.

4. Things to Keep in Mind Regarding Roof Racks

Aftermarket roof racks may not come as a kit, but individual pieces, which you can mix and match depending on your vehicle. Similarly, gear adapters are specific, such as for a snowboard or cargo basket, so you only have to buy what you need. Look for security features, such as a keyed clamp, unique installation tools or a security cable pass-through, which will help prevent theft of your roof rack, adapters and, most importantly, your equipment.

It&#;s recommended that you remove any non-factory racks, or at least the crossbars, when you&#;re not using them. Even empty roof racks can seriously disrupt the aerodynamics of your car, cutting into your fuel economy. Of course, if you&#;re actually carrying something, you don&#;t need to worry about this.

Roof racks are high, maybe even over your head, so be careful when loading and unloading your gear. You can scratch the paint, break a window or even hurt yourself. But with a little elbow grease, you&#;ll be cruising to the beach or the slopes clutter free in no time!
