Mortal Kombat's Approach to DLC Is EXPENSIVE But Just Right

Mortal Kombat 11 is growing again with Kombat Pack 2 and the new Ultimate bundle. The costs are skyrocketing, but is NRS providing the right value?

With the release of Kombat Pack 2, Mortal Kombat 11 is growing even larger. Since launching in April 2019, the storied fighter has added 12 fighters as DLC, plus an additional pre-order bonus in Shao Kahn.

It's an unusual move for developer NetherRealm Studios, as MK11 shows no signs of slowing down. Many fans are finding themselves upset at the game's skyrocketing cost thanks to additional DLC, but is that really fair?

Mortal Kombat 11 is on track to be the biggest game NRS has done to date. With the addition of Kombat Pack 2, MK11's roster reaches a staggering 37, just one less than their previous effort, Injustice 2. This also falls outside of the typical NetherRealm release strategy, where they drop a game's new content in the first year. MK11's releases have been spaced out further than any property before, and series creator Ed Boon has implied they aren't done yet.

The DLC inclusions have become something of a point of contention for fans, as they continue to add to the game's cost. For longtime fans who purchased all the DLC as it launched, the price is already up there, totaling $140 for the game, Kombat Pack 1 and the Aftermath expansion. That number could potentially skyrocket if fans opt to spend money on the in-game currency, Time Krystals, or Easy Fatality tokens.

With Kombat Pack 2, though, NetherRealm may be testing the waters with their DLC pricing. This pack is relatively barebones, including only three fighters -- Mileena, Rain and John Rambo. However, the $15 price tag almost excuses the lack of additional content. Each character will still be fully fleshed out, with a host of skins, gear and tower endings. For fans of the game (and fans of longtime favorites Mileena and Rain, both of whom have been sorely missed), $15 for three more fighters seems like a steal.

To be fair, NRS is just following the industry trend. Modern fighting games have begun to eschew the tradition of releasing multiple games in a generation in favor of supporting one title with massive DLC drops over the years. Games like Tekken 7, Dragon Ball FighterZ and Street Fighter V have kept their communities alive for years with a steady influx of DLC, and have built themselves a platform of big DLC releases with similarly massive price tags.

For NetherRealm, that DLC strategy means big season passes and characters that you'd never think would be in fighting games. It's not enough that they've given old favorites like Fujin and Rain a second life, but the games have become marquee fighters. Where else can Terminator and John Rambo finally slug it out? NRS appears to be very conscious of what it includes in the pricier bundles. For example, the Aftermath DLC, which is a staggering $40 purchase, brought back old favorites Fujin and Shiva, while also including a popular guest character in RoboCop and a four-hour expansion to the story mode.

MK11 is far from the most expensive game on the market, fighting game or otherwise. If anything, NRS has managed to pack the game and DLC with enough content to keep even the most miserly of gamers satisfied. While it may have plenty of issues -- ranging from costumes that are bulked up by palette swaps and a grind that feels like a mobile game -- NRS may have perfected the DLC model for fighting games. Time will only tell how much more they'll be adding to Mortal Kombat 11.

Developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate arrives on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Google Stadia and PC Nov. 17.

Mortal Kombat 11's Kombat Pack Gets Massive Discount

By William Parks

Players can currently gain access to Mortal Kombat 11's DLC characters at a big discount, thanks to an ongoing Kombat Pack sale.

While Mortal Kombat 11's DLC characters are all available for individual purchase, the Kombat Pack is a great way for players to gain access to all of the post-launch fighters as well as an array of special skins and gear pieces. Typically, the MK11 Kombat Pack retails for $39.99, but players can currently pickup the bundle for only $15.99, thanks to an ongoing sale.

This Mortal Kombat 11Kombat Pack sale is available to both PS4 and Xbox One owners, and players can take advantage of the 60% price cut through the PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store. That said, fans that are interested in the deal will need to act quickly, as the savings will only be active until February 3 for Xbox One and until February 5 for PS4.

As previously mentioned, the Kombat Pack contains the Mortal Kombat 11 DLC characters, of which there are currently five. More specifically, players that purchase the Kombat Pack now will gain immediate access to Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, the Terminator, Sindel, and the Joker, and they will also be able to take Spawn into battle when he releases in early access on March 27.

Additionally, the Kombat Pack features an array of skin packs for players to enjoy. This includes the recently-released Mortal Kombat 11 DC Elseworlds Skin Pack, which transforms Baraka, Kitana, and Noob Saibot into some fan-favorite DC villains, as well as the Klassic Arcade Ninja Skin Pack, the Gothic Horror Skin Pack, and more. As with the DLC characters, all of these cosmetics can be purchased individually, but players that are interested in several skin packs should certainly consider buying the full Kombat Pack under the current sale.

While Mortal Kombat 11's Joker is currently receiving the most attention, due to the fact that he released in early access just last week, all of the MK11 DLC characters have been received relatively well. For fans that have been wanting to try out these fighters but have not yet pulled the trigger on purchasing the Kombat Pack at full retail price, now is a great time to do so. However, it bears repeating that this sale is coming to an end promptly, and interested players are thus advised not to hesitate for too long.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.

Back, she unbuttoned her bra, which fell to the floor and was thrown back by her foot. Vadim moved away a little and began to admire her breasts, slightly straining nipples, looking at her flat tummy. Meanwhile, Oksana went up to him, kissed him on the lips and began to unbutton his trousers, which was possible rather quickly, and the trousers flew towards her blouse. Here he stands in front of her in some boxers with an already protruding member, but she decided to torment him a little more and not let his organ.

I do not tear, but combine everything into one, - Kelly giggled. And then Antonio saw her eyes. Dark, purple, without pupils and iris - just two shiny and motionless hemispheres. Kelly's mouth stretched into a terrifying smile from ear to ear. Antonio opened his mouth to scream, but instead of a scream, only a miserable half-choked squeak escaped his chest.
