Stat Priorities

Stat Priorities

Stats is a more individual topic so try to simulate what stat is best for your gear right now.

Single Target Stat Priority:

Agility > Critical Strike > Haste > Versatility > Mastery

AoE Stat Priority:

Agility > Critical Strike > Haste > Versatility > Mastery

Stat Outline

Mastery: Your mastery is called Mastery: Master of Beasts, increasing the damage done by all the pets and creatures that you summon. This includes your main pet, Dire Beast and more.

Haste: Increases your auto attack speed, increases focus regeneration and reduces the cooldown of Kill Command, Chimaera Shot and Barbed Shot.

Critical Strike: Increasing your chance to critically hit with all spells and abilities. BM Hunters have another passive interaction with Crit called Wild Call, if your auto-attack crits it has a 20% chance to reset the cooldown of Barbed Shot.

Versatility: Increasing all your damage and healing done, also decreases all damage taken.

In Shadowlands you want to look at the item level of each item, rather than the stats on it. A higher item level is usually better, you can surely follow the top gear sim.

The best way to calculate stat priorities for your character is to "sim" your character

Find out how to sim

Races

Horde:

  • Orc currently outperforms other races by a mile thanks to Command passive and Blood Fury which lines up with every usage of cooldowns.
  • Troll is also good for hunter, because of the Berserking racial.

Alliance:

  • Mechagnome is best for Alliance at the moment thanks to Combat Analysis.
  • Dark Iron Dwarf is another good race on the Alliance side, their Fireblood lines up well with cooldowns.

General Stat Priority

The general stat priority for a Beast Mastery Hunter is:

  1. Critical Strike;
  2. Haste;
  3. Versatility;
  4. Mastery.

Mastery is the worst stat for Beast Mastery despite it increasing pet damage, because it does not buff the damage from external sources like trinkets, most Covenant Abilities, and so on.

In a practical situation, your stat weights and priority will always be changing as you get more gear, trinkets and so on. This is a general stat priority that gives you an idea of what stats are good to have on your gear.

2.

How To Choose Gear For The Beast Mastery Hunter

If you are ever in doubt about what items to wear for any given situation, the only way to truly figure it out for your character is to use Raidbots (click for a guide on how to use it). This website allows you to easily compare gear you already have, as well as gear you do not have.

Gearing decisions will not always be clear-cut. This is obvious if you have ever had to choose between a high item level piece of loot with bad stats, and a lower item level piece of loot with perfect stats. These decisions and more are the reason we recommend using Raidbots to help simulate your character.

Raidbots takes everything into account including procs, RNG elements, your specific gear, racials and more. If you have made sure you performed the simulation correctly, then you can generally trust Raidbots' results to be accurate.

Gems, Enchants, and Consumables

The gems, enchants, and consumables you will use are directly derived from your stat priority and you can find our advice on this topic in our dedicated page.

Beast Mastery Hunter Gems, Enchants, and Consumables

Statistics Explanations

Agility is your primary stat. It provides you with Attack Power, which determines the damage your abilities do across the board.

Mastery, through Mastery: Master of Beasts IconMastery: Master of Beasts, increases the damage done by all the pets and creatures that you summon. This includes your main pet, Dire Beasts and more.

Haste increases your attack speed and Focus regeneration, reduces your Global Cooldown from seconds to a minimum of seconds, and reduces the cooldown on your Kill Command IconKill Command and Barbed Shot IconBarbed Shot abilities.

Critical Strike increases your chance to critically hit with all spells and abilities, causing them to deal double damage. For Beast Mastery, in particular, Critical Strike increases the frequency of Wild Call IconWild Call procs, which gives auto-shot critical strikes a 20% chance to reset the cooldown of Barbed Shot IconBarbed Shot.

Versatility increases all your damage and healing done, and decreases all damage taken.

The Stat Priorities for Beast Mastery Hunters in TBC Classic are, in order of importance:

  1. Hit Rating
  2. Agility
  3. Attack Power
  4. Critical Strike Rating
  5. Intellect/MP5
  6. Stamina

Hit Rating affects our chance to actually hit our target(s). If you are not at 9% Hit Rating, you may notice the word, &#;Miss,&#; appearing on screen every once in a while. This is a loss of DPS and needs to be avoided as much as possible.

Agility not only increases our Attack Power, but it also increases our Critical Strike Rating, Dodge chance and overall Armor.

1 Agility = 1 Attack Power (Both Melee and Ranged)

1 Agility = % Critical Strike Rating

1 Agility = % Dodge Rating

1 Agility = 2 Armor

Attack Power increases the damage we deal with our weapons.

Critical Strike Rating increases our chance to land critical strikes on our target(s). It&#;s a definite asset, but ranks lower than Attack Power and Agility as they are both guaranteed increases while Critical Strike Rating only increases the chance of a critical strike landing.

Intellect/MP5 increases the amount of spells we can use in a given fight. While I wouldn&#;t encourage seeking gear out exclusively because it has MP5, many pieces of equipment that Hunters would already be equipping may already have MP5 on them.

Stamina increases our survivability. It is always a possibility that we may accidently pull aggro away from the tank and have our Feign Death be resisted while the tank&#;s taunt is on cooldown, causing us to take a few hits.

Stat Priority for Beast Mastery Hunters

  1. Hit chance until 5% (Raid Hit Cap);
  2. Armor Penetration;
  3. Agility;
  4. Attack Power;
  5. Crit.

Stats Explained for Hunter

The most complicated thing about gearing usually comes down to optimizing your hit rating. The hit cap is 9% hit for raid bosses. 9% hit comes out to hit rating required, which needs to be achieved through your gear, gems, enchants, and buffs. For raids, there are two main buffs that you will probably have access to. Boomkins bring Improved Faerie Fire IconImproved Faerie Fire, which gives the whole raid 3% hit chance against the target. If you have a Draenei in your group, you will get Heroic Presence IconHeroic Presence, which is an additional 1% hit. Assuming you have these buffs, that means 5% hit or 79 hit rating needs to come from your gear. Gems are a particularly good way to optimize this since you want to get to 79 hit rating exactly, or barely going over since any hit rating past that has no value while raid buffed. Once you are hit capped, you mostly are just stacking Agility wherever you can while picking up Armor Penetration, Attack Power, and Crit that you find on pieces.

Hit

As a Hunter, your ranged attacks cannot be parried or be glancing blows; your attacks can only miss or be blocked. Against targets your level, you have a 5% chance to miss attacks. Raid and dungeon bosses are considered to be 3 levels above you, meaning your chance to miss attacks is slightly higher at 9%. Reaching the cap on hit means having a 9% increased chance to hit which equates to hit rating. In raids, however, thanks to the buffs from Balance Druids and Draenei, you should only need 5% hit or 79 hit rating to cap. Until you are hit capped, this is your most valuable DPS stat.

Armor Penetration

Armor Penetration allows you to ignore a portion of your target's armor. Armor has diminishing returns, however, meaning Armor Penetration has increasing returns for the lower you can get a target's armor. Ignoring armor against a low-target is significantly more damage than ignoring the same amount of armor against a high-armor target. This will not affect your decision-making process for gear much in PvE, but is worth knowing for how the stat works. Overall, this is a strong stat regardless.

Agility

As a Hunter, 1 Agility gives you 1 ranged Attack Power, 1 melee AP, a small increase to your chance to critically strike (40 Agility = 1% Crit Chance), 2 armor, and a small increase to your chance to dodge. Agility will be your main source of Attack Power and is going to be your most common stat found on gear, as it is your best primary stat.

Attack Power

Attack Power increases the damage you deal. The damage of all of your abilities and attacks are calculated using your AP. It is important to note that ranged attack power and melee attack power are separate stats. If something increases your attack power, it affects both, but sometimes items will specify either ranged or melee attack power, which only affect your ranged and melee attacks respectively.

Critical Strike

When you deal a critical strike, your attacks will do % increased damage. As a Hunter, this is slightly higher due to your Mortal Shots IconMortal Shots talent, which increases your damage from critical strikes by 30%. More importantly, though, Hunters use Kill Command IconKill Command as one of our core abilities. This ability is only usable after you crit, which makes crit quite valuable since more crit gives you more uses of Kill Command. This makes your chance to critically strike with attacks quite important, but you also gain a large amount of crit chance from your Agility. For crit rating, about 22 crit rating is a 1% increase to your crit chance.

Other Stats

Stamina increases your health, and is important for your survival. A higher amount of health means that you can take more damage before dying, which gives healers more time to heal you during raids or dungeons.

Intellect increases your Mana pool and your chance to critically strike with spells. Spells refer to magic damage and none of the Hunter abilities that you use in your normal rotation count as spells in this context. The increased Mana pool is useful to make sure we never run out of Mana during a fight.

Mp5 increases your Mana regeneration, even while in combat. This is actually a decent stat since we can run into Mana issues on longer encounters, but we also do have Aspect of the Viper IconAspect of the Viper.

Spirit increases your out-of-combat health regeneration and your Mana regeneration. Your Mana regenerates according to the 5 second rule, which is easy to follow for Hunters because your spells are used when you open on an enemy, and then you will finish most enemies off with Auto Shot IconAuto Shot, allowing your Mana to naturally regenerate. Spirit is ranked low because you should not normally be losing much health, due to your pet tanking, and you can naturally regenerate most Mana if you use the correct rotation without needing additional Spirit.

Lastly, Strength increases your melee attack power. This is not useful to hunters since the majority of damage we deal is ranged damage, which is unaffected by melee attack power. There are small exceptions on some bosses and encounters where you can occasionally use melee attacks between shots, but these are rare enough that you should not gear for them.

Priority bm hunter stat

What stats do you want on a hunter?

What stats do you want on a hunter?

Base Hunter Stats

  • Agility – Agility provides hunters with one point of melee and ranged attack power per point of agility.
  • Intellect – Intellect increases the hunter&#;s mana pool.
  • Stamina – As with any other class, stamina buffs the hunter&#;s hit points, (ie: health).

What stats do hunters need in Shadowlands?

The general stat priority for a Beast Mastery Hunter is:

  • Haste;
  • Critical Strike/Versatility;
  • Mastery.

What does agility do in Shadowlands?

Agility increases your Attack Power, grants a small amount of dodge, and increases your Armor when Ironfur is active. In Shadowlands, Agility is your strongest overall stat. It is the best stat per-point offensively, and it also has a defensive conversion due to Ironfur&#;s Agility scaling.

How much haste should a BM hunter have?

Probably around 30% for safety. Crit % helps with this too, as auto Crits have a chance to refresh a barbed shot. So you&#;re just looking for a comfortable amount of both until 30% haste becomes easy to get (last raid tier normally).

Does versatility affect hunter pets?

All of your pets inherit your crit chance. Mastery: A simple damage increase to all of your pets (including talents that summon any kind of beast). This also includes AoE damage that comes from your pets such as Stomp and Beast Cleave. Versatility: Increases all damage, and reduces damage taken.

Does versatility work on pets?

In general, pets for all classes scale with all of your stats except mastery, unless the mastery specifically states that it increases pet damage (like the Demo one does). They gain crit, haste, and versatility from you, and inherit AP based on your AP or SP.

Does haste affect hunter pets?

All of your pets inherit your Haste for their attack speed. Not only haste but also every other stats effect on your pet.

What does haste do for Hunter wow?

Haste: Increases your auto attack speed, increases focus regeneration and reduces the cooldown of Kill Command, Chimaera Shot and Barbed Shot.

Do hunters need agility wow?

Hunters require AGI for an additional 1% dodge chance, but Hunters typically have a high amount of agility, as well as an Aspect spell that further increases their chance to dodge attacks.

What are the best talents for a beast mastery hunter?

Best Beast Mastery Hunter Talents

  • Level Animal Companion.
  • Level Scent of Blood.
  • Level Natural Mending.
  • Level Thrill of the Hunt.
  • Level Posthaste.
  • Level Stomp.
  • Level Aspect of the Beast.

What does Versatility do in World of Warcraft?

Versatility is pretty simple: 1% Versatility grants a 1% increase to your damage, healing, and absorbs, and reduces the damage you take by %. It&#;s a straightforward, obvious upgrade to your primary role&#;s performance, but also gives significant boosts to secondary role performance and survivability.

What is indestructible stat in wow?

Indestructible is a new minor stat that causes that specific item to not take any durability damage.

Is there a versatility cap wow?

To my knowledge, there&#;s no versa cap, but Raiku probably just reasoned that at the versa level he&#;s at now, other stats are worth more to him. It&#;s still a 1 percent increase. Doesn&#;t matter if you do 30k damage or 10k damage. There would be diminishing returns if you got less percentage per point as you go higher.

What is the haste cap in WOW Shadowlands?

%

Is item level more important than stats in Shadowlands?

An item with a higher item level of 10 will have more Stamina and Main Stat. Although, the secondary stats on it may be a DPS loss for you. TLDR; main stat is more important than secondary stats in most cases.

Is item level better than stats?

A big enough ilvl difference will always be ilvl over stats. Like a mastery verse piece is still miles better than a crit haste (using sin rogue as example). Thankfully its DPS and you can just sim any piece.

How do you get more haste in Shadowlands?

Stan 3, Blizzard added diminishing returns to secondary stats in Shadowlands, meaning you will need to gather increasingly more secondary stats from gear after reaching 25% rating. In Battle for Azeroth, secondary stats grow linearly, meaning X Haste increases your Haste gained by Y%.

Can you change the secondary stats on your legendary Shadowlands?

You can&#;t change stats when upgrading legendary at the moment.

How do Wow stats work?

Primary stats mostly increase your character&#;s raw power directly, by modifying your damage or healing done directly, or increasing your health pool. Primary stats are present in every piece of gear available. All abilities from your class derive their final throughput value from your primary stat, causing this effect.
