Water Filter Connection Converters / Adapters

You would only need to buy this adapter once

This is a top quality John Guest adapter that will connect your 15mm pipe / to standard 1/4 inch water filter tubing.

It comes with a neat shut-off tap that cuts off the supply tothe quarter inch pipe. So it's useful when changing the cartridges.

Most undersink 15mm pipe in the UK is copper and accepts a simple self-cutting / saddle valve to connect your water filter.

But increasingly plumbers are fitting plastic pipes under sinks. The problem is you cannot use a saddle valve on a plastic pipe to connect your water filter.

With this adapter you can cut into your 15mm plastic pipe and place this adapter in line. It allows you to "T off" into a 1/4 inch OD tube.

(You can also use this unit on a copper pipe if you wish)

Cutting 15mm plastic pipe is fairly easy. It is a very quick job for a plumber or you could do it yourself. (Check YouTube for instructional videos)

PVC Pipe Size Dimensions Chart

FORMUFIT products are compatible with most Schedule-based PVC pipe systems.  To provide additional support, the following tables outline the physical dimensions and pipe diameter of each PVC Pipe Size that will work with FORMUFIT products.

Each of the following dimensions are separated by Schedule in each table and follow the 'Nominal Size' rules. Refer to the diagram below for an explanation of each measurement. For a detailed explanation on Schedule and how it applies to PVC pipe, please click here.

PVC Pipe is identified by the Inside Diameter (ID) of the pipe.  This measurement is known as ‘Nominal’ which means in-name-only, or a referenced name.  One of the issues encountered with many of our customers is that they attempt to measure the Outside Diameter (OD) of the pipe, which will give a completely different (and larger) PVC pipe dimension.

How to measure PVC pipe

If you prefer to measure the outer diameter of PVC pipe use the tables below:

  1. Take your OD measurement and look in the second or third column (Actual OD) of each table below.
  2. Once the pipe OD is determined, look to the left-most column of the charge below (Pipe Size).  This will be the nominal pipe size, or the size of fittings you want to order.

PVC Schedule 40 Sizes Table

Schedule 40 PVC pipe is compatible with all FORMUFIT external-fit and internal-fit products.

PVC Schedule 80 Sizes Table

Schedule 80 PVC pipe is only compatible with FORMUFIT external-fit products. FORMUFIT internal-fit products, such as Internal Dome Caps, Adjustable Elbows, Internal Couplings and other products that fit inside of the PVC pipe will not work with SCH 80 PVC due to the smaller internal diameter.

PVC Thinwall Sizes Table

Thinwall PVC pipe is only compatible with FORMUFIT external-fit products. FORMUFIT internal-fit products, such as Internal Dome Caps, Adjustable Elbows, Internal Couplings and other products that fit inside of the PVC pipe will not work with Thinwall PVC due to the larger inner diameter.

Please note that not all PVC sizes are available in Thinwall PVC pipe.

CPVC Pipe

CPVC pipe, also known as Copper Tube Size (CTS) plastic pipe uses a different measurement system and is not compatible with FORMUFIT PVC products. Please see our CPVC Identification Page for more information.

Additional Ratings

Please note that we do not provide pressure rating or temperature ratings for PVC pipe and fittings as our products are designed for structural use and are not ideal for plumbing applications. While our products do carry the same ratings as standard Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 PVC plumbing pipe and fittings, they have not been tested with the National Sanitary Foundation (NSF) for this application.

Plastic Pipes Inch to Metric Sizing Guidelines

The most commonly used pipework sizing system in the UK has been the Imperial (inch) for many generations.

Imperial pipe sizes are designated to piping by the nominal bore (nb). The introduction of the metric sizing system was to bring the UK into line with the rest of Europe, and whilst accepted in many areas of industry, has had a slower uptake, resulting in both Imperial and Metric remaining readily available in the UK. However, this has proved confusing, as Metric is sized in millimeters and relates to the outside diameter (od) of the pipe, opposed to imperial, which is sized in inches and relates to the nominal bore(nb) (or inside diameter (id)).

As pipe sizes from the different groups cannot be mixed, a special conversion fitting must be used to change from one to another if necessary.

For example a, 1½” (nb) imperial pipe is the equivalent of a 50mm (od) metric pipe size. Similarly, a 2” (nb) tube has a mm od and is also known as 50mm nb, but the metric equivalent is actually 63mm od.

Please see the Comparison Chart for the full Imperial / Metric conversions from ¼” to 10”nb and 8mm to mm od.

We sell pipe in both Imperial and Metric sizes (in 3 metre or 6 metre lengths). We also stock a variety of compression fittings should you be looking to convert metric to imperial or vice versa.

Best Pvc Pipe Cutter 2 3 4 Inch

1--PVC-FLEX ON SALE and CLEARANCE ITEMS

PVC Pipe is identified by the ID (Inside Diameter) and is referred to as a "nominal" size which means "in name only." However this confuses people and most novices try to use the OD (Outer Diameter) to order parts. If you do this, measure the OD of your pipe and find it the 2nd column of the chart below. Now look to the left (1st column) and that's the size of pipe and fittings you buy.

If this is a pressure rated system, move to the right to find the maximum working pressure your system will see and go up to the top of the column to see the schedule or class pipe you should have. If you are using Flexible PVC pipe, look for the blue box inset in the yellow box for pressure ratings. (The size is the same, only the pressure rating changes for FlexPVC.) If you are looking for flow rates, see PVC Pipe Flow Chart.) For WEIGHT PER FOOT please see PVC & CPVC PIPE SPECS Weight Per foot and dimensions..

PVC PIPE 12" and smaller is identified and sold based on the Inside Diameter (ID). Sizes 14" and larger are identified and sold based on the Outside Diameter (OD.) In the chart above you will see the OD stays the same, only the wall thickness changes. Fittings are identified and sold based on the nominal size (first column) of the pipe and classification of the fittings and pipe. Ie if you have Sch 40 1" pipe, you buy Sch 40 1" fittings. For any system that is pressurized you should use the same classification of pipe and fittings. But for constructed (structural) projects you can generally mix and match different classifications. If this is a new pressurized project, use the pressure ratings guide above to select what classification/schedule you will need for your project. If you are working with a system already plumbed, you may be able to read the printing on the pipe. If you can't find the printing, you will have to cut the pipe to measure the wall thickness to know for sure what pipe you have. If you are building a structural project and using fittings to construct something that will never see flow through the pipe, you pick the size of pipe based on the physical strength you need. Sch 80 is the thickest wall, and therefore strongest pipe. However, the fittings used for construction projects do not come in Sch 80, only sch If you are trying to make something light and it won't be used for anything heavy, class pipe will save weight and money. If you are using it to hold up heavy objects or span long distances, sch 80 pipe is the strongest readily available pipe. Sch 40 pipe is typically used for these projects because it has the best strength/weight/cost ratio and is widely available. If you have special needs you can consider using other pipe schedules and/or classifications of the same size because they will all have the same OD of the pipe. Using Class pipe saves weight and money but has lower strength. Using PVC pipe to build constructed items like racks, shelving systems, canopies, etc, is outside the design limits of the product. PVC Distributors will not be held liable for any failures or injuries caused by a failure of the pipe or fittings in such situations.

You can also use this chart as a general guideline to find telescoping pipe possibilities. Find a pipe with an OD just slightly smaller than the ID of another pipe. That will be your best bet to find pipe that will telescope inside of each other. Remember, pipe ID can vary, so sometimes trial and error is the only way to produce a satisfactory result.
