Are They Friends in Real Life? Here Is a Glimpse into the Life of the Cast of ‘Rizzoli and Isles’

Nearly five years after its grand finale, fans of the crime drama series, “Rizzoli and Isles” still obsess over the incredible storyline and what the casts have been up to ever since.

Crime drama television series, “Rizzoli and Isles” first graced the TV screens in 2010, introducing a vast lineup of casts and characters. The show ran for seven episodes, before going off-air in 2016.

Since then, the casts have moved on with their lives, undertaking new ventures, movie roles, and relationships. The close-knit ties between the characters in the series kept viewers captivated through the 7-season run, coupled with the action-packed storyline.

It comes as no surprise, therefore, that almost half a decade later, fans are left wondering if the “Rizzoli and Isles” cast still maintain their on-screen connection and friendship in real life.

The TNT crime series, “Rizzoli and Isles” is based on the Tess Gerritsen books of the same title. It centers on the lives of best girl pals, Jane Rizzoli, a police detective, and Maura Isles, a medical examiner, as they strived to fight crime in society and bring evasive criminals to book.

Premiering in July 2010, the show introduces Rizzoli, played by actress Angie Harmon, as the diehard detective almost obsessed with nailing a necrophiliac serial killer, Hoyt. Maura Isles as the medical examiner, played by Sasha Alexander, also had a penchant for trying to figure out the oddest details about a corpse that could help solve a murder case in the Boston area.

The duo’s investigative endeavors soon leave them in the center of the drama, setting the premise for the series. Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles soon encounter more shocking revelations when the medical examiner’s unknown half brother dies. Discovering his body gave way to new twists.

In their bid to cover hidden truths and crime perpetrators, the best friends encounter other obstacles, aides, and colleagues. All these entities play important parts in the series.

Some of these characters’ real-life role players make up the essential cast of “Rizzoli And Isles.” Keep reading to find out what these fan-favorite performers have been up to since their stint on the TNT show and if they are real-life friends.

Starring as Jane Rizzoli, one of the female leads, Angie Harmon proved herself a force to reckon with in crime drama series. Her martial art stunts, outright show of emotions, and relationship with those she cares about, with her family and best friend at the top of the list, made the Boston detective a fan-favorite character.

The actress has maintained a low profile since her days on the show but has landed a few impressive gigs. Between 2017 and 2018, the star voiced three episodes of “Voltron: The Legendary Defender.” She also appeared in an episode of “Match Game,” in 2020.

Aside from her entertainment endeavors, the Rizzoli roleplayer collaborated with LeighDeux, a home décor company, to launch her summer collection of skull designs in June 2020.

Harmon has also maintained an interesting personal life. In 2014, she split from her husband of 13 years, Jason Sehorn, with whom she shares three daughters. Five years later, the star announced her engagement to actor, Greg Vaughan, who has remained her fiancé since December 2019.

The Maura Isles role player, Sasha Alexander signed her name in the hall of crime dramas with her performance in the TNT show.

Outside the series, she played a recurring role on “Shameless,” while filming the final season of “Rizzoli and Isles” from 2015 to 2016. Additionally, she landed roles in “Bernard and Huey” “Law And Order: SVU,” “FBI” “Dangerous Lies,” and in the 2020 production, “Amazing Stories.”

Alexander is married to Edoardo Ponti, whom she wed in 2007. The couple has since welcomed two children and is going strong to date.

Lorraine Bracco | Image: YouTube/The Wendy Williams Show

Actress Lorraine Bracco portrayed Detective Rizzoli’s mom, Angela Rizzoli, a typical Boston mother determined to see her eldest daughter embrace the feminine ways.

Aside from being the stubborn matriarch of the Rizzoli clan, Bracco snagged starring roles in “The Sopranos,” “Blue Bloods,” and “The Birthday Cake,” an upcoming crime thriller. She also made a cameo appearance in an episode of “Aj and the Queen.”

The actress has lived through two marriages and her personal life boasts of two daughters from previous relationships.

Jordan Bridges | Image: YouTube/KSiteTV

Jane Rizzoli’s beloved little brother, Frankie Rizzoli Jr. was played by Jordan Bridges. The character, who was a uniformed cop detested living in his sister’s shadow. That proved to be a huge challenge thanks to their shared career paths.

Since his stint on the TNT series, Bridges has starred in “Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt For The Bone Collector,” “Gone,” “Den Of Thieves,” and “The Old Man.” He also guest-starred on “Law And Order: SVU.”

Outside his entertainment endeavors, Bridges is a husband and a father-of-two, having married actress, Carrie Eastman in 2002.

Known for his role in the legal drama, “Suits,” Bruce McGill thrilled viewers for eight seasons as Detective Vince Korsak. Originally Rizzoli’s partner, Korsak formed a close bond with her, becoming somewhat a father to her in his protective nature.

When he’s not nailing criminals or rescuing stray dogs on the TNT show, the “Suits” actor spends his time starring in notable movies. Some of his works since his days as Korsak include “Shades Of Blue,” “NCIS,” and “Blue Bloods,” as a guest-star. Additionally, he made appearances on “Poms,” and “The Best Of Enemies,” and “Troubled Waters.”

To date, the icon enjoys marital bliss with his wife, Gloria Lee, whom he married in 1994.

Brian Goodman | Image: Pinterest

Sean Cavanaugh’s role player, Brian Goodman killed the role of the loyal lieutenant seamlessly, making him highly sought after.

Following his role on the crime drama series, Goodman went on to star in “Chance,” and in an episode of “I Know This Much Is True, ” 2020. In addition, the icon embraced directional endeavors, directing the 2017 thriller, “Black Butterfly.”

Adam Sinclair | Image: Pinterest

First introduced in the sixth season, Adam Sinclair played Dr. Kent Drake, Isles’ new assistant. He filled in for the medical examiner when she embarked on her well-deserved sabbatical to focus on writing a novel.

But Sinclair’s life goes beyond labs and autopsies in the real world. In 2019, he starred in the short film, “Alien: Harve,” by 20th Century Fox. His acting records also boast of roles on “Lethal Weapon,” “Gotham,” and “Animal Kingdom,” among others.

Jane Rizzoli’s brother, Tommy Rizzoli, played by Colin Egglesfield became a recurring character in the second season of the series. Until the seventh season, the actor rendered his role flawlessly, portraying an ex-convict striving to start a new life while nursing his crush on Maura Isles.

After his run on the show, Egglesfield proceeded to snag other movie roles, with credits in “Bad Moms,” “The Middle of X,” and “The Space Between Us.” He also landed roles on “Love By Drowning,” and two episodes of “Chicago Fire.”

Since December 2019, he has sustained a relationship with actress, Aline Nobre.

Late actor Lee Thompson Young starred as Rizzoli’s partner Barry Frost in the TNT crime series. Sadly, the role marked his last ever, as the actor died in 2014, after shooting himself to death. Young’s loss came as a shock to the entire crew, who expressed their surprise and sadness while grieving his loss.

Officers discovered his lifeless body in his home after he failed to show up on set for scheduled filming. The season 4 episode of “Rizzoli and Isles, ” titled “You’re Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone,” served as a special tribute to the star.

Aside from the deceased actor, Thompson Young, the other recurring casts of the TNT series had many opportunities to sustain their on-screen chemistries in the real world. Over the years, most of their paths have crossed on the set of other movies and television shows, serving as an avenue to rekindle their friendship.

Notably, the two leads, Harmon and Alexander seem to have a connection that goes beyond their parts as on-screen besties. The Isles role player has been open about her relationship with Harmon, saying it came effortlessly. During an interview, she explained how their “Chemistry” clicked from the moment they read together.

However, not much is known about the state of the relationship between the rest of the cast since “Rizzoli and Isles” went off the air in 2016, making it difficult to ascertain the status of their real-life friendship.

‘Rizzoli & Isles’ Cast: Where Are They Now? Angie Harmon, Sasha Alexander and More

By Johnni Macke

Us Weekly

Partners in crime! Rizzoli & Isles took the crime show genre to the next level with its 2010 premiere, focusing on two female friends and colleagues who didn’t need anyone else to solve the case.

Based on the novels byTess Gerritsen, the TNT drama followed detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and medical examiner Dr. Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) as they worked together to put away bad guys in the greater Boston area.

The series ran for seven seasons — from 2010 to 2016 — and the chemistry between the two leads is what keeps fans yearning for a reboot.

“It’s pretty effortless, I must say,” Alexander told the Advocate magazine in 2012 of her onscreen connection with Harmon. “It’s kind of one of those things that clicked from the moment we read together.”

Despite being very different people off-screen, the two actresses made for believable friends and coworkers for years. Jane was a tough tomboy who had a big family, while Maura was prime and proper, and together they made sense.

“Angie and I are very different people. We’re raised different. In real life we’re very different, but the chemistry just works,” the NCIS alum explained. “I feel like we represent different types of women and we can celebrate all of that without it trying to be one or the other.”

The connection seen between the show’s stars on TV stretched to the rest of the cast, which was partially made up of Jane’s family members — brothers police officer Frankie Rizzoli Jr. (Jordan Bridges) and Tommy Rizzoli (Colin Egglesfield) and their “ma,” Angela (Lorraine Bracco).

The crime-solving duo’s coworkers were rounded out by detective Vince Korsak (Bruce McGill), detective Barry Frost (Lee Thompson Young) and lab tech Nina Holiday (Idara Victor).

Tragedy stuck the Rizzoli & Isles family in August 2013, when Lee Thompson Young died by suicide at the age of 29. The loss was felt throughout the cast and crew, which is what led to them honoring him in the season 5 premiere.

“We had one simple principle, which was to make sure that we were honoring Lee and the character of Barry Frost,” showrunner Jan Nash told Slate in June 2014. “If the people who loved Lee chose to see it, they would feel that we were honoring his memory.”

This Is What Really Happened To Susie On Rizzoli And Isles

As the senior criminalist on "Rizzoli & Isles," Susie (Tina Huang) was an essential part of the team. The fan favorite character worked right alongside Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) from Season 2 to Season 6. And along the way she earned a reputation for having a wicked sense of humor and a big heart to match.

Susie added so much humor and light to the series it was a shock when her character was killed off in Season 6. At first, it seemed the criminalist had simply disappeared, but Rizzoli and Isles quickly discovered their coworker had been murdered. Given her importance to the show, it wouldn't have been right for the series to gloss over Susie's tragic ending. Instead, the writers built a mystery around her death that became one of the most personal cases the title characters ever had to solve.

In the Season 6 episode "Misconduct," Rizzoli and Isles find troubling evidence that their dear friend Susie may have been leading a double life. During a sweep of her apartment, the women discover a secret room in her apartment full of money and stolen evidence. But by the end of the hour, it becomes clear Susie is being set up by a vengeful politician.

However, even after the case was closed, fans were still left wondering why Huang exited the series. And while it's not uncommon for actors to move on from long-running shows, in this case, it wasn't the actress' decision to leave.
