Top 5 Hellcat Red Dot Optics

By Richard Johnson

Without a doubt, the Springfield Armory Hellcat is one of the hottest guns on the market. People have been buying them as quickly as the company can make them. I’m one of those owners, and I’ve been thrilled with my purchase.

Red dot optics for Springfield Hellcat

In addition to the standard version, Springfield Armory offers the Hellcat with OSP options. The OSP, or Optical Sight Pistol, is a version of the gun that allows an electronic optic’s easy addition through direct mounting to the slide. The result is a means for low-mounting a micro-optic that will allow co-witnessing with the pistol’s excellent U-Dot sights.

These guns’ slides are machined to fit the Springfield Micro footprint which is % compatible with the existing Shield RMSc optic footprint. The Springfield Micro footprint is the standard for micro-optics designed for thin carry pistols.

Shown in a holster, this Springfield Hellcat is equipped with a red dot optic

If you are like me, you wanted to find the best red dot to mount on your Hellcat. Let’s look at some of the options, and I will share what I picked for my own daily carry Hellcat.

HEX Wasp

If you want a red dot optic that is designed to work perfectly with the Hellcat, the HEX Wasp is the clear choice.

Designed by Springfield Armory, the HEX line of optics are rugged reflex sights that match the size and styling of the company&#;s guns. The Wasp is an ideal example.

HEX Wasp mounted on Springfield Hellcat pistol

The HEX Wasp mounts directly to the slide of the Hellcat OSP. That gives the sight a low profile. When combined with the relief cut at the rear of the Wasp, this red dot co-witnesses with the factory U-Dot sights.

Springfield manufactures the Wasp body from T6 aluminum with a hardcoat anodized finish. Not only will it stand up to daily wear and tear, but it resists corrosion and is even waterproof to 1 meter for 30 minutes.

Unlike some of the cheaply made optics on the market, the HEX Wasp uses impact-resistant glass for optical clarity. The lens has coatings that make it both scratch- and glare-resistant.

HEX Wasp red dot sight from Springfield Armory

The aiming dot is a MOA red dot. A sensor on the Wasp adjusts the brightness automatically to match the ambient conditions. This allows the sight to stay on constantly so you never have any delay when coming on target. Battery life is estimated at two years with regular use.

Springfield Armory lists the HEX Wasp at $ Not only is that a great red dot for the money, but the company also backs it with a lifetime warranty. That pushes it into the &#;best buy&#; category.

JP Enterprises JPoint

Well known in the competition and precision shooting markets, JP Enterprises has a reputation of building and selling quality firearms and shooting gear. The company extends that tradition with a pair of compact red dot style sights that will mount to the Hellcat’s RMSc optic footprint.

Called the JPoint, the sight is available with either a 4 MOA or 8 MOA red aiming point and is considered by some to be one of the best Springfield Hellcat optics available. An LED — not a laser — projects the aiming dot, so there is no danger of accidental eye damage. The hard-coated acrylic lens has a 98% light transmission rating.

The J-Point red dot from the side

These sights are lightweight — less than one ounce each — which allows you to add one to your Hellcat without a meaningful weight increase on your belt. Made of glass-reinforced nylon polymer, the optic is designed to handle more than g of recoil force. Additionally, it has an operating temperature of ˚ F to more than ˚ F.

Powered by a single CR battery, the sights have an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts the aiming dot. The company states that in normal use, the battery life should be between six and 12 months. I’d recommend changing batteries at the same six-month interval with your smoke detectors for much the same reason.

The sights are affordable at $, with either-sized aiming dot. JP Enterprises backs the JPoint with a warranty for as long as you own it. That warranty is transferrable to a second owner.

Shield Sights SMSc

The Shield Sights SMSc is a polymer-bodied version of the aluminum Shield RMSc. It was one of the first micro-sized sights on the market and is a perfect fit on the Hellcat. That’s one of the reasons why you see so many of the pistols fitted with the SMSc.

The sights have a polymer body that offers a balance of light weight and durability. An internal LED projects a 4 MOA aiming dot onto the quartz-coated polymer lens, which allows you to get on target fast.

Angle view of the Shield SMSc

Shield Sights designed the SMSc to operate in a constant-on mode, meaning it is always ready to go. It uses an automatic brightness adjustment system to keep the aiming point bright enough for the lighting conditions.

According to the company, a single CR battery should power the unit for two to three years. However, with typical carry and storage, the dot is often minimally powered. The company expects the average user to get four or more years of use on a single battery. My recommendation is to pick a date on the calendar and change the battery once a year on that date. Batteries are relatively cheap, and you don’t want your sight to go down because you were trying to save a few pennies.

The Shield Sights SMSc is a good value with a price tag of $ That price includes everything you need to install and zero the sight. Also, a battery is included.

Swampfox Sentinel

Swampfox is a scrappy young company that you should take a look at if you aren’t already familiar with its products. The Sentinel is the company’s micro red dot that perfectly complements the Hellcat.

The company uses top materials and construction techniques in the Sentinel. The body is machined T6 aluminum with a hard coat finish. Swampfox uses an LED emitter with a true glass lens for incredible optic clarity. A multi-coating finish on the glass reduces fogging, repels water and helps to resist scratching — a real advantage for a Springfield Hellcat red dot.

Springfield Hellcat with red dot from Swampfox

Swampfox offers two models of the sight. One is a standard Sentinel with manual controls. I opted for the constant-on model that automatically adjusts the brightness of the 3 MOA aiming dot. A light sensor measures ambient lighting conditions and matches the aiming point for the environment.

Automatic adjustments happened rapidly in my testing. I worked with this optic on my Hellcat in a broad range of lighting conditions, and the sight consistently kept up with changes. The aiming dot was always visible.

Swampfox lists the full retail price as $$ depending on the model you choose. With that, you get a warranty that covers the optic for 50, rounds of live fire. To me, it offers a great balance of price and performance.

Trijicon RMRcc

For many people, Trijicon is the go-to name in optics. It enjoys a long-standing reputation of making rugged night sights, military rifle optics and other battle-tested products.

The recently introduced RMRcc is Trijicon’s entry into the micro red dot sight market. Built on the success of the extremely popular RMR line of handgun optics, the new RMRcc promises exceptional durability and a lifetime of service.

Trijicon's new red dot fits on the Hellcat with an adaptor mount

While the footprint of the optic is not compatible with the Hellcat OSP’s slide cut, the company does offer an adapter mount that fits in the rear sight’s dovetail slot. Trijicon offers two versions of this sight. One uses a MOA aiming dot while the other has a MOA dot. Both variants function identically.

The RMRcc uses a constant-on design with a total of eight brightness settings, two of which are suitable for use with night-vision equipment. According to company testing, a single CR battery should power the sight for more than four years on a medium setting.

Trijicon lists the retail price as $ for both models. That makes it the most expensive micro red dot sight on this list, but the RMRcc is backed by a lifetime warranty. If you&#;ve ever wanted an RMR on your Springfield Hellcat, the RMRcc is just the ticket. For more information on this optic, read our Trijicon RMRcc review.

Conclusion

So there you have it, an overview of today’s top red dots for the ever-popular Hellcat OSP pistol from Springfield Armory. With this list, you should be able to find an optic that fits your budget and your needs, and one that will take the already impressive performance of your Hellcat to the next level.

Shield RMSc Best For Astigmatic Eyes

Will Mount DIRECTLY To Hellcat Slide Without Any Mod

Why use Shield RMSc – The RMSc shares the same mounting footprint as the original RMS red dot & Holosun K X2. It has the clearest lens and dot via a polymer lens for shooters with astigmatism. They gonna love it!

Perfect for single stack pistols - Fits flush on the Hellcat OSP slide. Looks great, feels great and built tough.

Polymer glass optic for endurance - Withstand up to 10X greater shock impact than glass optics plus minimal lens reflection

Super lightweight for CCW - Carry it any where you go without feeling like there is weight on you.

The optic is powered by one CR battery that lasts about 2 years (recommended to switch out every year). The dot offers 4 or 8 MOA size dots, which are both great for handgun use, especially for the close distance the Hellcat is roughly designed to shoot.

Faster reticle pick up speed with 4 or 8 MOA makes this a great range optic.

Common FAQ

What MOA Size Best For Sub-Compact Conceal Carry Pistol

3 - 8 MOAs are great for sub-compact conceal carry handguns.

A larger dot lets the shooter quickly superimpose the dot while the eye focuses on the target and engage instead of focusing on the front sight post.

In addition, a larger dot is much crispier and round for shooters with bad astigmatism.

Optic Ready Vs Standard Slide - What Fits The Springfield Hellcat?

The optic ready Hellcat slide is machined for Shield RMSc footprint. Any RMSc (Not RMRcc) footprint will mount directly to the slide without any modification.

Some optics are just better to be mounted on custom milled slide so they're seated deep on the slide and doesn't move around to hold zero.

If you want to mount the Holosun K X2 or the Trijicon RMRcc, then you have to check out the CHPWS plates.

Next we show you why RMRcc should be mounted on a custom milled slide instead of using an adapter plate.

Does Trijicon RMRcc Fit On A Optic Ready Hellcat?

Trijicon RMRcc is an awesome sub compact red dot for a custom milled slide Hellcat, BUT NOT for the optic ready Hellcat slide.

Trijicon RMRcc is longer than the factory slide cut

CHPWS makes awesome adapter plates, but this one does not provide the best solution for mounting a Trijicon RMRcc on the Hellcat.

Here is why:

Need to trim the screw length so it sits flush after reaching 20 in lb before putting RMRcc on top

Even with the plate adapter, the optic just sits too tall, can't use back up iron sights, too bulky, not practical, and NOT aesthetically pleasing.

Holsters Options

As more holsters are coming out to accommodate the Hellcat with optic cut and pistol lights, please check out MyEDCHub for their specific Hellcat holster recommendation.

Like you, I’m the owner of a Hellcat pistol. I was confronted with the same question when I wanted to drop an RDS on it. Unfortunately, there weren’t many good resources of information on optics that would fit the handgun.

So, I decided to make my own to help you out. I put them all into a single list that I hope will assist you in making your own decision about what will work best for you.

Highlights

• not yet available
• projected to be very inexpensive
• poor experience with another ADE product
• made in China

The company initially expected to introduce the Spike in June of but missed that shipping date. The company’s website has no further updates on when it expects to offer these.

I strongly caution against buying the Spike based on my prior experiences with another of the company’s optics.

I tested the ADE RD red dot sight during my review of the Girsan MCCT pistol. The optic’s glass shattered with less than 15 rounds through the gun.

These are Chinese-made optics at a very low price point. I would not be surprised if many of the optics encountered problems with regular use.

Holosun K &#; K

While the mounting screws are in the same place as a standard RMSc footprint optic, the Holosun sights are not % compatible with RMSc-type slide cuts. For reasons that escape me, Holosun did not mill the bottom of the K or K to accommodate the indexing lugs that are found on the Springfield Hellcat.

To mount the Holosun sights, you have two options. The first is to permanently alter your pistol slide by grinding down the lugs. There are companies that offer this service for about $

The second option is to purchase an adaptor plate. An adaptor will allow you to mount the Holosun without machine work on your slide. C&#;H Precision Slide offers a plate for $ An adaptor will add a small amount of height and weight to the optic.

Both of the sights share a number of features with the reticle being the standout difference. The K uses a plain 6 MOA red dot while the K uses something called the Multi-Reticle System (MRS.) The MRS gives you a wide 32 MOA ring encircling a smaller 2 MOA dot that is very similar to the EO Tech reticles. You can also change the K reticle to the circle only or dot only.

Features the sights share include a T6 housing, IP67 rating (submersible to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes) and the Shake Awake technology that provides up to 50, hours of runtime.

If you are interested in the K, you can get it here. Likewise, the K is available here.

Riton Optics X3 TACTIX MPRD

Highlights

• T6 aluminum body
• multi-coated HD glass with % light transmission
• 3 MOA dot with manual illumination adjustment
• water-, fog- and shock-proof
• oz
• no paperwork needed lifetime warranty regardless of purchaser
• made in China
• best price I’ve found

Riton uses a strong T6 aluminum alloy for the X3 TACTIX MPRD body. While not as strong as T6, it is sill a durable metal used in many firearms accessories and some AR receivers. It should more than durable enough for a pistol optic.

The X3 TACTIX MPRD uses a 3 MOA red dot projected onto a glass lens that has been finished with an anti-reflection coating.

To activate the optic, you press the up arrow button on the side of the unit and keep pressing until you reach the desired brightness. For a range gun, this is fine.

On a self-defense optic, I prefer an always-on option. You aren’t likely to get into a defensive shooting only when you are ready for one. Who knows if you will have time to turn on your pistol’s optic and then cycle through the brightness levels to get to an appropriate one.

Riton states the unit is “% waterproof” but does not offer an IP rating.

One of the most impressive aspects of this sight is the warranty that Riton offers. The company backs the X3 TACTIX MPRD with an unlimited lifetime warranty. You don’t need any paperwork and it doesn’t matter who purchased the unit. If it breaks, they send you a brand new unit – often shipping it within 48 hours.

Shield RMSc

The SMSc is very similar in appearance to the RMSc. However, it has some significant differences.

First of all, the SMSc uses a polymer body instead of an aluminum one.

I prefer a tough aluminum housing for an optic as it might get banged around a bit. Nevertheless, polymer can be very tough and is likely acceptable in this application.

The second significant change in the SMSc is the lens. With the SMSc, you have the option of a polymer lens with a new quartz coating or you can go with a glass lens. According to the company, these lenses offer “extra resilience to the daily wear and tear of shooting.”

Another difference between this optic and the RMSc is that the SMSc does not have a battery drawer. If you wish to swap the energy cell, you have to remove the sight.

While the company still does not provide any water intrusion resistance rating, deleting the drawer likely increases its ability to keep working in the rain.

As with the RMSc, the company offers a limited lifetime warranty on the SMSc. Electronics are limited to a 7-year warranty.

SIG SAUER Romeo Zero

the Mx10mm screw is the proper size for mounting the Romeo Zero on your Hellcat. Although I’ve not tried this method, it would be my first choice with the SIG SAUER optic.

SIG backs the optic with the SIG SAUER Infinite Guarantee. No receipt is required and the warranty is not attached to the original purchaser. However, the electronic components are warranted for only 5 years.

Swampfox Sentinel

I’ve extensively tested the Swampfox Sentinel on a Hellcat pistol, and I encourage you to read my full review of it. However, I want to hit the highlights here as well.

The Sentinel comes in two forms: one is a completely manual optic while the other is automated. Both are the same size and offer the same quality of construction.

Bodies are CNC machined of T6 aluminum. This is a high-strength aluminum alloy designed for critical aviation components. It is also the same material used for the standard M4/M16/AR15 receiver. It is tough stuff, and the toughest material used in any of these optics options.

Swampfox uses a true glass lens with multi-coatings to reduce the potential for fogging and scratches. Further, the coatings repel water to keep it free of water distortion in rain.

recommend the Sentinel.

Trijicon RMRcc

Trijicon now offers a miniature version of the RMR sight that will fit the Springfield Armory Hellcat pistol. Called the RMRcc, the new red dot sight can be had with either the MOA dot or the MOA dot.

Both versions of the RMRcc for the Hellcat use a similar design to the original RMR. However, the sight is both thinner and lighter. This makes it a good match for any micro-compact pistol.

Highlights

• made in the USA
• rugged T6 aluminum body
• multi-coated glass lens with or MOA dot
• waterproof to 20 meters (no IP rating)
• 1 oz with battery
• lifetime warranty
• MSRP: $ but nearly $ cheaper here

Trijicon is known for its tough optics, and the RMRcc is in the same category. Like the Sentinel above, the Trijicon RMRcc uses a body made of T6 aluminum.

The company states the RMRcc is waterproof to 20 meters (66 feet.) However, the company does not make any claims with regards to how long the optic can be submerged, nor does it provide an IP rating. IP ratings are objective tests that measure water and dust intrusion.

This sight uses a CR battery that is rated to run more than four years continuously in a controlled environment with the brightness set at a medium level. Change your battery once a year and you’ll never have an issue.

It has eight brightness levels with two being suitable for night vision use.

The RMRcc has a unique footprint – not the standard RMSc used by the other companies. This means that you will need to purchase the proper mounting plate from Trijicon to fit the Hellcat. The proper size plate is part number AC for the Hellcat OSP pistol.

Final Thoughts

Most of the options on this list are good choices for your Hellcat. I recommend avoiding the ADE brand based on my experience, but your experiences may be different.

If you want a top-notch optic that won’t break the bank, take a look at the Swampfox Sentinel.

However, if you need a good red dot and your budget is tight, the SIG Romeo Zero is a good choice. You give up the water-resistance and take on a polymer body. If you take care of it, it should treat you right.

Just find the one that makes sense for you and get to the range!

Hellcat Red Dot vs Iron Sights

Springfield Armory also offers the Hellcat with OSP options. OSP stands for Optical Sight Pistol. This version allows electronic optics to be added directly to the slide. The result is a means for low-mounting a micro-optic that will allow co-witnessing with the pistol&#;s excellent U-Dot sights.

These guns&#; slide are made to fit the Springfield Micro footprint, which is % compatible the Shield RMSc optical footprint. The Springfield Micro footprint is the standard micro-optics for thin carry pistols.

You, like me, wanted the best red dot for mounting on your Hellcat. Let&#;s take a look at some options and then I&#;ll share my personal pick for my daily carry Hellcat.

HEX Wasp

If you want a red dot optic that is designed to work perfectly with the Hellcat, the HEX Wasp is the clear choice.

Designed by Springfield Armory, the HEX line of optics are rugged reflex sights that match the size and styling of the company&#;s guns. An ideal example is the Wasp.

The HEX Wasp attaches to the Hellcat OSP slide. This gives the sight a low profile. This red dot, when combined with the relief cut at rear of Wasp, can be used in conjunction with factory U-Dot sights.

Springfield produces the Wasp body using T6 aluminum and an hardcoat anodized finish. It is not only durable enough to withstand daily wear and tear but also resists corrosion.

Unlike other optics that are cheaply made, the HEX Wasp uses high-quality glass to provide optical clarity. The lens is coated with coatings that protect it from scratches and glare.

The aiming dot is an MOA red dot. The Wasp has a sensor that adjusts the brightness to match the surrounding conditions. This ensures that the sight is always on, so there&#;s no delay in getting to your target. With regular use, the battery life is approximately two years.

Springfield Armory lists hexwasp at $ The HEX Wasp is a great value for money. It also comes with a lifetime warranty. This makes it a &#;best buy&#;.

JP Enterprises JPoint

JP Enterprises is well-known in precision shooting and competition markets. They are known for building and selling high quality firearms. A pair of compact red dots style sights will be mounted to the Hellcat&#;s RMSc optical footprint.

Called the JPoint, the sight is available with either a 4 MOA or 8 MOA red aiming point and is considered by some to be one of the best Springfield Hellcat optics available. The aiming dot is projected by an LED, not a laser. This eliminates the risk of eye injury. The 98% light transmission rate of the acrylic lens is hard-coated.

These sights weigh less than 1 ounce, so you can add them to your Hellcat without having to increase your weight. The optic is made of glass-reinforced polymer nylon and can withstand more than g of recoil force. It can operate at temperatures ranging from °F to °F.

The sights are powered by a single CR AA battery and have an ambient light sensor to adjust the aiming dot. According to the company, the battery life should last between 6 and 12 months in normal usage. For the same reason, I recommend that you change your batteries every six months.

The sights start at $ and can be used with any sized aiming dot. JP Enterprises offers a lifetime warranty on the JPoint. This warranty can be transferred to a second owner.

SMSc Shield Sights

The Shield Sights SMSc, a polymer-bodied variant of the aluminum Shield RMSc, is available. It is the perfect size for the Hellcat and was the first micro-sized sight on the market. This is why so many pistols are equipped with the SMSc.

The sights are made of a lightweight polymer that is both durable and light. The internal LED projecting a 4-MOA aiming dot onto a quartz-coated lens allows you to quickly get on target.

Shield Sights designed SMSc so that it can operate in constant-on mode. This means it is always available to go. The automatic brightness adjustment system ensures that the aiming point is bright enough to meet the conditions.

According to the company, a single CR CR battery will power the unit for up to two to three years. The dot is usually only minimally powered due to the fact that it can be carried and stored. According to the company, an average user will get at least four years of use from a single battery. I recommend that you pick a date from the calendar, and then change the battery once per year. Batteries are quite affordable, so you don&#;t want to lose your sight because you wanted to save some pennies.

The Shield Sights SMSc offers great value at a cost of $ This price includes everything needed to zero and install the sight. A battery is also included.

Swampfox Sentinel

Swampfox, a young and scrappy company, is worth a visit if you don&#;t know anything about its products. The Sentinel is the company&#;s micro red dot that perfectly complements the Hellcat.

Sentinel is constructed using the best materials and construction techniques. The body is made from T6 aluminum and finished with a hardcoat finish. Swampfox uses an LED emitter that has a real glass lens to provide exceptional optic clarity. The glass&#; multi-coating coating repels water, reduces fogging and resists scratching. This is a huge advantage for any Springfield Hellcat red dot.

Swampfox offers two types of sight. The other is the standard Sentinel, which has manual controls. The constant-on model automatically adjusts brightness for the 3 MOA dot. The light sensor detects ambient lighting conditions and matches the aiming points to the environment.

In my testing, automatic adjustments occurred quickly. The sight was able to adapt quickly to changing lighting conditions. The aiming dot was always clearly visible.

Swampfox lists the retail price at $$, depending on which model you choose. You also get a warranty covering the optic for up to 50, rounds of live firing. It offers great value for money and excellent performance.

Trijicon RMRcc

Trijicon optics is the name that people trust. Trijicon is a trusted name in optics, making rugged night sights and military rifle optics.

Trijicon&#;s entry in the micro-red dot sight market is the recently launched RMRcc. The RMRcc is a continuation of the RMR line handgun optics. It promises outstanding durability and lifetime service.

Although the optic&#;s footprint is not compatible with Hellcat OSP slide cuts, the company offers an adapter mount that fits into the rear sight&#;s slot. Trijicon makes two versions of this sight. The first uses a MOA aim dot, while the second uses a MOA dot. Both versions work identically.

RMRcc has a constant-on design that includes eight brightness settings. Two of these are suitable for night-vision equipment. A single CR cell should be sufficient to power the sight for four years in a medium setting, according to company testing.

Trijicon lists both models at $ retail. This makes it the most expensive micro-red dot sight on the list. However, the RMRcc comes with a lifetime warranty. The RMRcc is the perfect choice if you ever wanted an RMR for your Springfield Hellcat.

So, you recently purchased a Springfield Armory Hellcat and now you want to add a red dot sight (RDS). The question is &#;what optics are compatible for a Springfield Hellcat OSP?&#;

So, I decided to make my own to help you out. I put them all into a single list that I hope will assist you in making your own decision about what will work best for you.

Best Springfield Hellcat Optic

Let&#;s get to it.

Oh, and for those curious, I picked the Swampfox Sentinel. I am extraordinarily pleased with that decision. More on that farther down.

ADE Spike

ADE Advanced Optics is an Oregon-based company that imports inexpensive shooting gear from China. One of the newest products it plans to offer is the Spike.

Not much information is available on the Spike other than it will fit the Hellcat.

Highlights

• not yet available
• projected to be very inexpensive
• poor experience with another ADE product
• made in China

The company initially expected to introduce the Spike in June of but missed that shipping date. The company&#;s website has no further updates on when it expects to offer these.

I strongly caution against buying the Spike based on my prior experiences with another of the company&#;s optics.

I tested the ADE RD red dot sight during my review of the Girsan MCCT pistol. The optic&#;s glass shattered with less than 15 rounds through the gun.

These are Chinese-made optics at a very low price point. I would not be surprised if many of the optics encountered problems with regular use.

Holosun K & K

Holosun K for Springfield Hellcat

Holosun is very popular with many shooters as the company&#;s products tend to offer a good balance of price and performance. Several readers have reported good success with the K/K mounted on the Springfield Hellcat.

However, there is a serious drawback to mounting these sights to your Hellcat (read below.)

Highlights

• T6 aluminum body
• fixed 6 MOA dot (K) or Muti Reticle System (K)
• IP67 resistance (submersible to 1 meter for 30 minutes)
• 12 manual brightness settings
• no paperwork needed lifetime warranty regardless of purchaser
• made in China
• best prices I’ve found on the K here and the K here

While the mounting screws are in the same place as a standard RMSc footprint optic, the Holosun sights are not % compatible with RMSc-type slide cuts. For reasons that escape me, Holosun did not mill the bottom of the K or K to accommodate the indexing lugs that are found on the Springfield Hellcat.

The second option is to purchase an adaptor plate. An adaptor will allow you to mount the Holosun without machine work on your slide. C&H Precision Slide offers a plate for $ An adaptor will add a small amount of height and weight to the optic.

Holosun K

Features the sights share include a T6 housing, IP67 rating (submersible to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes) and the Shake Awake technology that provides up to 50, hours of runtime.

If you are interested in the K, you can get it here. Likewise, the K is available here.

Riton Optics X3 TACTIX MPRD

Riton X3 TACTIX MPRD Red Dot Optic

Riton Optics offers a straightforward red dot sight that will fit your Springfield Armory Hellcat pistol.

It does not offer all of the features that some other optics do, but the unit is affordable and backed by an &#;unlimited&#; lifetime warranty.

Highlights

• T6 aluminum body
• multi-coated HD glass with % light transmission
• 3 MOA dot with manual illumination adjustment
• water-, fog- and shock-proof
• oz
• no paperwork needed lifetime warranty regardless of purchaser
• made in China
• best price I&#;ve found

You aren&#;t likely to get into a defensive shooting only when you are ready for one. Who knows if you will have time to turn on your pistol&#;s optic and then cycle through the brightness levels to get to an appropriate one.

Riton states the unit is &#;% waterproof&#; but does not offer an IP rating.

One of the most impressive aspects of this sight is the warranty that Riton offers. The company backs the X3 TACTIX MPRD with an unlimited lifetime warranty. You don&#;t need any paperwork and it doesn&#;t matter who purchased the unit. If it breaks, they send you a brand new unit &#; often shipping it within 48 hours.

Shield RMSc

Shield RMSc reflex sight

Shield Sights Ltd manufactures a number of reflex-style sights including two that will work on your Springfield Hellcat pistol. The first &#; and original &#; Hellcat optic is the RMSc.

The RMSc is an affordable reflex optic designed for micro-compact pistols.

It uses a polymer lens instead of a glass lens. According to the company, a polymer lens is much more resistant to impact than glass. The company uses an anti-reflection coating on the lens to reduce glare.

The body is made of aluminum though it is unclear what kind of aluminum is used.

You can purchase the RMSc with either a 4 MOA or 8 MOA red dot. The design allows for the co-witness of the factory Hellcat sights.

This is a constant-on optic with an automatic brightness adjustment. According to the company, the lowest power is NV compatible and the brightest dot is daytime visible.

A single CR battery powers the optic for 2+ years of average use. A battery drawer allows for the replacement of the battery without removing the optic.

No information is provided by the company regarding durability testing or water resistance.

Shield offers a limited lifetime warranty on its sights with a limit of 7 years on the electronics.

Shield SMSc

Shield SMSc optic

Shield Sights offers a second micro-sight for the Hellcat. It is called the SMSc.

Highlights

• updated version of RMSc
• lightweight: oz with battery
• polymer body with quartz coated polymer lens
• 4 and 8 MOA red dot with automatic brightness adjustments
• made in the UK
• purchase from Optics Planet

The SMSc is very similar in appearance to the RMSc. However, it has some significant differences.

First of all, the SMSc uses a polymer body instead of an aluminum one.

I prefer a tough aluminum housing for an optic as it might get banged around a bit. Nevertheless, polymer can be very tough and is likely acceptable in this application.

The second significant change in the SMSc is the lens. With the SMSc, you have the option of a polymer lens with a new quartz coating or you can go with a glass lens. According to the company, these lenses offer &#;extra resilience to the daily wear and tear of shooting.&#;

SIG SAUER Romeo Zero

SIG SAUER surprised a lot of people when it jumped into the optics market. But they put the pedal down and haven&#;t let up. The company&#;s optics line is legitimately huge.

One of its newer offerings is a perfect match for the Springfield Armory Hellcat: the Romeo Zero.

A red-dot-style reflex sight, the Romeo Zero uses the same RMSc footprint that the other optics on this page use. That means it mates up directly to your Hellcat&#;s slide without the need for any adaptor plates.

The sight offers a number of features that compare favorably to the other options including a very lightweight ( ounces) and an affordable price tag (MSRP: $)

Additionally, the Romeo Zero has a motion-activated red dot. In other words, it should sense you drawing the gun and turn on. In my opinion, this is superior to the manual optics. The optic is powered by a single CR battery and will run for up to 10 years with normal use.

Brightness is manually adjusted with a single button. Press this to cause the light to get brighter. After hitting the brightest setting, it then reduces with each press of the button.

SIG opted to use a polymer body with a polymer lens. While durable, these components likely contribute to the relatively inexpensive price tag.

SIG states the polymer lens uses SpectraCoat for &#;10 times the impact resistance&#; when compared to other glass lenses. Yet, the first review on the company&#;s own site (at the time of this writing) states the polymer lens was scratched from debris with less than 50 rounds fired. That is not reassuring.

One issue you are likely to experience with the Romeo Zero is the mounting screws are too long for the Hellcat. You will need to file them down to mm in length for a proper fit.

Filing the screws down is a pain, but if you like this sight, it is not a difficult task. You just have to be careful not to harm the threads.

Alternatively, I&#;ve been told that the Mx10mm screw is the proper size for mounting the Romeo Zero on your Hellcat. Although I&#;ve not tried this method, it would be my first choice with the SIG SAUER optic.

SIG backs the optic with the SIG SAUER Infinite Guarantee. No receipt is required and the warranty is not attached to the original purchaser. However, the electronic components are warranted for only 5 years.

Swampfox Sentinel

Shooting the Swampfox Sentinel on a Springfield Hellcat

This is my pick for the best Springfield Armory Hellcat red dot sight.

I&#;ve tested mine extensively and it handles everything I throw at it. Let&#;s take a look at the details.

Highlights

• high-quality construction: T6 body and multi-coated lens
• excellent durability in testing
• 3 MOA red dot with rapid and automatic brightness adjustment
• oz
• made in China
• 50, round performance guarantee
• very affordable: less than $ each for all models
• best price today

I&#;ve extensively tested the Swampfox Sentinel on a Hellcat pistol, and I encourage you to read my full review of it.

Swampfox Sentinel optic for Hellcat

Speaking of water, the company states the optic is IPX7 rated. This means you can submerge the optic to a depth of one meter for 30 minutes and it will keep on working. This is well beyond the rain resistance that many optics offer.

I tested the always-on version of the Sentinel. With this model, a single CR battery offers about two years of constant use.

It automatically adjusts the brightness of the 3 MOA aiming dot to the lighting conditions. I found the adjustments to be near-instantaneous. It always hit the right amount of brightness for me to clearly see the dot regardless of the background.

Swampfox backs its optics with a 50, round guarantee. If the Sentinel stops working within 50, rounds of live fire, the company will repair or replace it. Frankly, few people run 5, rounds through their pistol and almost no one will shoot 50k. So, this should be a lifetime warranty for most readers.

I highly recommend the Sentinel.

Trijicon RMRcc

Trijicon RMRcc for Springfield Hellcat

Change your battery once a year and you&#;ll never have an issue.

It has eight brightness levels with two being suitable for night vision use.

The RMRcc has a unique footprint &#; not the standard RMSc used by the other companies.

If you want a top-notch optic that won&#;t break the bank, take a look at the Swampfox Sentinel.

However, if you need a good red dot and your budget is tight, the SIG Romeo Zero is a good choice. You give up the water-resistance and take on a polymer body. If you take care of it, it should treat you right.

Just find the one that makes sense for you and get to the range!
