This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the tenth generation (, , , and ) GM Chevy Impala in checking or changing a blown fuse or a faulty relay in either the engine bay or the interior passenger compartment electrical panels.

Owners of other General Motors vehicles such as the Malibu, Cruze, Camaro, Sonic, Spark, Volt, Corvette, Trax, Equinox, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban, SS Sedan, Bolt, Colorado, Silverado, Buick Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, Cascada, Encore, Envision, Enclave, Canyon, Sierra , Terrain, Acadia, Yukon, Savana, ATS, CTS, XTS, CT6, XT5, SRX and Escalade may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

This Impala is equipped with standard mini blade fuses.

Some General Motors models may have the relatively newer style of low profile mini blade fuses. Please check your vehicle before purchasing new fuses.

A white plastic fuse puller tool should be included on the engine bay electrical panel and also another one on the back side of the driver side dashboard storage compartment.

Pull the old fuse straight out of the socket.

To check the old fuse, hold it up to a light bulb.

If the thin metal strip or "band" in the translucent plastic center of the old fuse appears to be burnt or broken, the old fuse is most likely "blown" and should be replaced.

If the metal wire inside the fuse appears to be intact, the old fuse is most likely still good. Since new fuses are so inexpensive, it should still be replaced as part of your electrical issue troubleshooting process.

Push a new mini blade fuseof the same amperage rating (e.g. 5A, 10A, 15A, 20A) straight in to the socket.

(Some GM models are equipped with the relatively newer style shorter "low profile" mini blade fuses.)

To check a relay, you'll need to use a multimeter. The easiest way to troubleshoot a faulty relay is to just replace it with a new one.

Raise the storage compartment drawer and push in the side walls until the two side stops can be re-inserted.

Replace the contents of the storage compartment and close it to complete the job.

Test the electrical component you were having issues with such as the wipers, radio, power seat, power windows, tail lights, headlights, horn, interior lights, etc.

If you are still having the same problem, there might be a shorted wire some where or the component itself needs to be replaced.

Location box 2014 fuse impala

Interior Fuse Box Location: Chevrolet Impala

The video above shows how to replace blown fuses in the interior fuse box of your Chevrolet Impala in addition to the fuse panel diagram location. Electrical components such as your map light, radio, heated seats, high beams, power windows all have fuses and if they suddenly stop working, chances are you have a fuse that has blown out. If your Impala is experiencing electrical problems, you should always check the fuses first, because they are relatively easy to check and cheap to change. Some Chevrolets have multiple interior fuse boxes including in the trunk - the video above will show you where the interior fuse box of your Impala is located. If your Impala has many options like a sunroof, navigation, heated seats, etc, the more fuses it has. Some components may have multiple fuses, so make sure you check all of the fuses that are linked to the component in question.

If you need to replace a blown fuse in your Impala, make sure you replace it with one that has the same amperage as the blown fuse. If checking and replacing the fuse for the component in question doesn't work, we recommend seeking assistance from a trusted professional mechanic. They should be able to figure out if the component needs to be replaced or if there is a short or some other problem with your Impala.
