How To Fix Apex Legends Crashing On PC

Fix Apex Legends Keeps Crashing To Windows 10 Desktop

If you have been facing problems with Apex Legends persistently crashing, freezing, and throwing random error windows, then with a bit of luck one of the methods below will fix the problem you are facing.

There can be many causes behind why Apex Legends is crashing on your Windows 10 PC or laptop. One of your system or game files might have become corrupted, your hardware is struggling to handle the game, or perhaps your computer is just overheating.

How To Fix Apex Legends From Crashing In Windows 10:

1. Make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements for the game

  • You can view the minimum system requirements here

2. Check that your PC or laptop is not overheating – If it is this will cause Apex Legends to crash and bluescreen and can also cause serious harm to your hardware

3. Ensure you have the latest Windows 10 updates installed and the latest version:

  • Right-click the Windows 10 start menu icon > Settings > Click on Updates & Security
  • Click on Check for updates

4. Ensure you have the latest drivers installed for all your hardware, especially your graphics card – Having the latest drivers for your hardware can help resolve huge problems when it comes to games crashing:

  • Check out these posts on how to install Intel drivers and NVIDIA Drivers

5. Disable Origin & Steam Overlays – Depending on which game client you use to launch and play Apex Legends, disabling the in-game overlay could help fix any crashing issues you are facing:

  • For Origin: Open Origin and click Origin at the top > Application Settings > Select Origin in-game > Toggle “Enable Origin in-game” to Off
  • For Steam: Open Steam and click on Steam in top left > Settings > Select In-game > Untick “Enable the Steam overlay while in game”

6. Close down all programs before launching Apex Legends – This is just in case one is causing a conflict making the game crash

7. Turn off any overclock settings you have applied to your hardware

8. Run Apex Legends as an administrator:

  • Open the Windows start menu and search for Apex Legends > Right-click on Apex Legends then click Open File Location
  • Right-click the r5apex.exe and click Properties > Select the Compatibilty tab then tick “Run this program as an administrator” > Press Apply

8. Run a disk cleanup and remove temporary files:

  • Open the start menu and search “Disk Cleanup” and open it >
  • Select your HDD (if you have more than one drive you will have to keep doing this for each drive)
  • Now select DirectX Shader Cache and Temporary files then click the “OK” button then “Delete files”

9. Try launching Apex Legends from a different user account – If it doesn’t crash you know it’s an issue with your user

10. If you are playing Apex Legends in Fullscreen change it to Borderless:

  • Launch Apex Legends > Click on the Settings cog in the bottom right > Settings > Video
  • Change Display Mode to “Borderless Window

11. Change all the graphics settings to the lowest setting – If your graphics settings are set too high then it may cause your game to crash so start off low and slowly increase them:

  • Launch Apex Legends > Click on the Settings cog in the bottom right > Settings > Video

12. Repair the game files through the game launcher that you use to launch Apex Legends on – Depending on if you use Steam or Origin to launch Apex, then you can scan and check for any corrupted files with the game that could be causing it to crash on your PC:

  • You can view how to repair game files in Steam here and Origin here

13. Run a system file check – This is to make sure no system files have become corrupted in Windows 10:

  • Open the start menu and search “CMD” >Open Command Prompt
  • Type the following and press enter: sfc /scannow

We hope one of the above methods helps fix the problems you were facing with Apex Legends crashing on your Windows 10 PC or Laptop. Please comment below and let everyone know which method helped.

If your Apex Legends is still crashing then unfortunately you might need to reinstall the game as one of the game files might be corrupted and the scan did not pick up on the issue. If the crashing still persists after a reinstall of the game then you might need to reset Windows 10.

Apex Legends is the latest battle royale blockbuster for Windows that EA and Respawn released on Origin.

However, some Apex players have stated that the game crashes with some regularity since Respawn launched it in February 2019. One player stated:

I am writing this because I am one of the people who would very much enjoy and love your new game APEX LEGENDS; however, currently I am not enjoying your game because it keeps crashing non-stop WITH NO ERROR and not because I have a crappy PC.

Thus, Apex Legends crashes with some regularity for some players without any error message. So, there are no clues for potential resolutions within an error message. Nor has EA provided official resolutions or an update that fixes the Apex Legends crashing.

However, some players have still discovered some resolutions for fixing Apex. These are some of the resolutions that might fix Apex crashing.

How do I fix Apex Legends crashes without errors?

  1. Update graphics card driver
  2. Repair Apex Legend game files
  3. Update Apex Legends in Origin
  4. Reinstall the Origin game client
  5. Repair the Easy Anti-Cheat service
  6. Place a restriction on the game’s frame rate
  7. Clean Boot Windows

1. Update Graphics Card Driver

Users should make sure that they have the most updated graphics card drivers for the GPUs, and this can easily be done if they have DriverFix.

This lightweight utility is extremely efficient, identifying all drivers on your PC that are either old, broken, or missing entirely.

DriverFix doesn’t just fix GPU drivers, it also handles drivers from peripherals as well, any device you have connected to your PC will have the latest drivers as well.

DriverFix will update and fix your GPU drivers in an instant so that you can play APex Legends without any issues!

2. Repair Apex Legend game files

Apex’s crashing might be due to corrupted game files. So, try repairing the game’s files.

Run a System Scan to discover potential errors

Run a PC Scan with Restoro Repair Tool to find errors causing security problems and slowdowns. After the scan is complete, the repair process will replace damaged files with fresh Windows files and components.

Players can do that in Origin by clicking My Game Library to open the library. Then right-click the Apex Legends game and select the Repair option.

3. Update Apex Legends in Origin

Some players have confirmed that updating Apex fixes the game. Players can do that by clicking My Game Library on the left of the Origin window.

Right-click Apex Legends and select the Update Game option.

4. Reinstall the Origin game client

  1. Right-click the Start button to select and open Run.
  2. Input appwiz.cpl within Run’s Open text box, and select the OK option.
Apex Legends crashes programs and features
  3. Select Origin and click Uninstall.
  4. Select the Yes option to provide further confirmation.
  5. Restart the desktop or laptop after uninstalling Origin.
  6. Open the Get the latest version of Origin page in a browser.
    download origin apex legends crashes
  7. Then click the Download button for Windows.
  8. Install Origin with the downloaded setup wizard.

Reinstalling the Origin client software will ensure that players have the very latest version of the software. Origin games will likely run better with the latest version of the client software installed.

5. Repair the Easy Anti-Cheat service

  1. First, open the Apex Legends game folder.
  2. Next, open the Easy Anti-Cheat subfolder.
  3. Then right-click Easy Anti-Cheat and select Run as administrator.
  4. Press the Repair Service button on Easy Anti-Cheat setup window.
  5. Thereafter, press the Finish button.

Apex crashing can also be due to the Easy Anti-Cheat service. So, repairing Easy Anti-Cheat is a potential fix.

6. Place a Restriction on the game’s frame rate

  1. Open Origin.
  2. Click My Game Library to open the game library.
  3. Right-click Apex Legends and select Game Properties.
  4. Select the Advanced Launch Options tab.
  5. Then input +fps_max 100 in the Command line arguments text box.
  6. Press the Save button.

Some users have said that they’ve fixed Apex by establishing a max 100 frame rate for the game.

7. Clean Boot Windows

  1. Open the Run accessory.
  2. Input msconfig in Run and click OK to open the System Configuration window.
system configuration window Apex Legends crashes
  3. Select Selective startup on the General tab.
  4. Select the Load system services and Use original boot configuration settings.
  5. Uncheck the Load startup items check box.
  6. Then select the Services tab shown directly below.
system configuration services Apex Legends crashes no error
  7. Select the Hide all Microsoft services first, which will exclude more essential services from the list.
  8. Then select the Disable all option.
system configuration restart Apex Legends crashes
  9. Select the Apply option.
  10. Press the OK button to exit system configuration.
  11. Select the Restart option on the dialog box window that opens.

Clean-booting Windows will ensure that there are no potential software conflicts with antivirus utilities and other programs by removing third-party programs and services from the startup. So, a clean boot might also make some difference.

If Apex doesn’t crash after the clean boot, players will need to figure out what the conflicting software is (most probably antivirus utilities). Then they can restore all the other software in the system startup via Task Manager.

The resolutions above might fix Apex crashing for some players. However, they aren’t guaranteed to fix Apex Legends for all players. Hopefully, EA will release some update patches soon that will resolve some of the game’s bugs.

For some users, it’s been like a few seconds of freezing during games while for some others, it’s an inability to join an Apex Legends match. If you are using PC for your gaming and the Apex Legends is crashing, you might have to check a lot more things, but you’re given more options than players on consoles, who might have to wait until there is an update.

Let’s examine some of the most common issues users have experienced, and see Apex Legends crash fixes that will work for each of the issues.

Fix 1 – Update Driver

The first recommendation is to update your drivers; for most gamers, this has been the solution to most of the crashing. The drivers might be outdated, so using the latest driver could be the fix for you. AMD and Nvidia regularly release new drivers and updates for their video cards, and these are often designed to fix issues and optimize issues related to the game.

Fix 2 – Downgrade Driver

Fix 3- Disable G-Sync and Freesync and others

There is a chance that the reason you are experiencing persistent crashing of the Apex Legends is that your video card comes with sync options that aren’t compatible within Apex Legends. Some users have discovered that disabling this feature for Apex has stopped the freezing and crashing.

Fix 4 – Check OS and Graphics Drivers

If none of these fixes work and your Apex Legends pc crashing continues, you might want to update your operating system and graphics drivers to ensure that they are up-to-date. Another thing to check is that your PC meets the minimum system requirement for playing the Apex Legends game. Any of these could cause the Apex Legends pc crashing issue.

Fix 5 – Troubleshoot

Try right-clicking on the desktop shortcut icon, then run “Troubleshoot Compatibility” before launching the app. If the app is running, ensure it’s closed first or restarted before running this option.

Fix 6 – Check for conflicts

Another reason why the Apex Legends randomly closes could be that there is another program running in the background or installed on your PC that clashes with the Apex Legends. Its recommended that you run a clean boot, which is you practically closing all unnecessary programs on your PC and then launch the PC immediately you restart.

Fix 7 – Limit FPS

A great fix when you’re experiencing the Apex Legends random crash is the FPS. Try to limit FPS via the command line of the game: Gear/settings icon -> Game Properties -> Advanced Launch Options -> Add +fps_max 90 or (any other max) -> Save.

The Apex Legends random crash could be caused by the GeForce Experience. So, uninstall it and have it reinstalled. This has helped fix many of the Apex Legends pc crashing issues, and it should work for you.

Fix 10 – Reinstall the game to your internal hard drive and remove any external hard drives you’re not using.

Apex Legends - How To Fix Random Crash on Windows 10

If you’re playing Apex Legends and your game keeps crashing or freezing, but you know you meet the minimum requirements, then you may need to do a bit of troubleshooting to fix this.

When Apex Legends crashes on PC, it creates an "apex_crash.txt" file in your Documents folder. This is a small, plain text file, that contains no personal or system information. It shows active processes at the time of the crash, and dump file numbers.

This file can help us to figure out if it was Apex Legends that crashed, or if the crash was due to a software conflict or a hardware fault.

  1. Reinstall Apex Legends and Origin or EA Desktop.
  2. Perform a clean boot of your PC to disable background tasks that may be interfering with your game.
  3. Close programs running the background that may interfere with your game.
  4. Repair the game files by going to Origin, Game Library, then finding Apex Legends. Click the Settings icon then click Repair.
  5. Update your graphics driver.
  6. Add Windows Defender Firewall exceptions.
    • Go to: (Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Defender Firewall\Allowed Apps)
    • Make sure to add and check both boxes for Origin's or EA Desktop’s Launcher program.
  7. Set Easy Anti-Cheat priority to low in Task Manager. (You’ll need to do this every time you launch the game if this fixes the issue.)
    • Launch Apex Legends.
    • Open Task Manager by typing CTRL + ALT + DELETE.
    • Go to the Details tab.
    • Find the Easy Anti-Cheat program.
    • Right-click and select Set priority to low.
  8. Cap your frame rate.
    • Go to your Game Library.
    • Right-click on Apex Legends and select Game Properties, then Advanced Launch Options.
    • Add the following to Command line arguments: +fps_max 60
    • You can set it lower or higher than “60” if needed.

Crash random apex legends

Launched to the open public early last month, Apex Legends continues to be one of the most popular battle royale shooter games out there. The game quickly gained traction, amassing a staggering 50 million players in its first month. Unfortunately, like all games, Apex has its own fair of bugs. While there may be cheaters you occasionally run in to, rare server lag spikes which dramatically slow down your character, nothing is more annoying than Apex Legends crashing mid game.

Not only crashes are annoying in every game, but it is also particularly frustrating considering Respawn has yet to implement a reconnect feature for the game.

We have studied a lot of reviews concerning Apex Legends and interviewed well-known experts in the gaming industry. Some of them think that this game has more advantages and worth playing. Others disagree and think that fixing Apex Legends crashing mid game is just a waste of time. Below you can find a detailed article which was written on the basis of the analysis provided by gaming expert Johan Syren from reputable iGaming source Casino Valley. We are pretty sure that it will help you to make the right decision!

How to fix Apex Legends crashing mid game?

There may be multiple reasons why your Apex Legends is constantly crashing. Most of these are due to hardware compatibility issues, instead of Respawn’s server performance. Completing the instructions below will fix the issue for most players. Here are solutions players have found worked for them, with Solution 3 being the most successful.

Solution 1

1. Search for the Graphics setting page on the search tab
2. Click Browse
3. Find your Origin Games folder > Apex > Apex
4. After that, double click “r5apex.exe”, this will add an Apex Legends option on the Graphic setting page.
5. Click Options
6. Set graphics performance to “High performance”
7. Go back into Origin Games folder > Apex > Apex
8. Right click “r5apex.exe” > properties
9. Under Compatibility, tick the box for “Run this program as an administrator” AND untick the box for “Disable fullscreen optimizations”

Solution 2

1. Launch Origin > Games Library
2. Right-click the Apex Legends game photo
3. Head to Game properties > Advanced launch options
4. Copy past either option, depending on your monitor’s refresh rate, under Command line arguments. The first option for those using a 60hz monitor, and the second option for those who use a 140hz monitor.
– refresh 60 -GameTime.MaxVariableFps 60
– refresh 140 -GameTime.MaxVariableFps140
5. Hover over “Origin” at top left-hand corner > Application settings > More > Origin in game
6. Ensure “Enable Origin In-Game is turned off

Solution 3

1. Launch the Apex Legends game client
2. In the game, click the setting icon at the bottom right of your screen
3. Click the video tab
4. Under Display mode, click right and switch the options until you see “Borderless Window”
5. Switch V-sync options until “Triple Buffered”
6. Set Adaptive Resolution FPS Target to 50
7. Enable Adaptive super-sampling

Has Respawn done anything to address the problem?

With season 1 has just launched, their patch notes DO NOT reveal any fix implemented to stop the game from crashing. That said, they have added a crash reporting system which will help fix further issues in the future. However, Respawn has fixed a bug which crashed the client upon opening Apex packs.

Apex Legends - Random Crashes Fix on Windows 11

GeForce Experience

You should also take a minute to make sure that your graphics driver and operating system is up to date.

I suggest using the GeForce Experience application if you’re using an NVIDIA GPU, but you can also use the AMD driver suite.

In the Drivers tab, simply click on Download and the application will automatically download and install the latest driver, which will take a couple of minutes to complete.

In the Home tab, you have the option to change some in-game settings for Apex Legends.

Simply select Details for the game and you will be presented with your current and optimal suggested in-game settings.

Select the wrench icon at the right hand side to use Custom Settings.

To prevent random crashes, make sure to optimize the settings for performance, rather than quality for now, even when using a high end GPU and CPU.

Your Resolution should be set to your native monitor resolution, and when having startup issues, then make sure to launch the game in Windowed mode. You always have the option to change these settings back while in-game.

In your GeForce ExperienceGeneral settings, make sure that the in-game overlay option is disabled.
