Schedule an Extra Pick Up
If you have extra garbage, recyclables or yard waste, please call the Solid Waste Division at (925) 516-6090 five days in advance of your regular pick up day to have the extra material collected.
The lids on garbage, recycling and yard waste carts must be closed to prevent spillage. If the lids are open because of overfilling, the carts will not be serviced. An extra fee applies if a truck must return to service an overfilled cart. If overfilling is a constant occurrence, you may need to increase your level of service with a larger cart. Call the Solid Waste Division at (925) 516-6090 or submit a Service Request to upgrade your service.
For items such as mattresses, water heaters or appliances that will not fit in your cart, call the Solide Waste Division at (925) 516-6090 or submit a Service Request to schedule an extra pickup. A fee will apply.
The garbage, recycling and yard waste carts belong to the City. If you are moving, call Utility Billing at (925) 516-5415 to cancel your service and schedule your last pick up day.
To have damaged carts repaired or replaced, call the Solid Waste Division at (925) 516-6090 or submit a Service Request.
Each cart has a unique ID number on the front. Check it to be sure you are bringing in your own cart from the curb.

Garbage / Recycling
The City of Brentwood has been operating its own Solid Waste Division since 1994. Its collection program has been a leader in the County's recycling efforts with its innovative, user-friendly containerized recycling programs. Brentwood was one of the first cities in the County and the state to implement city-wide yard waste collection; and its single-stream recycling collection is now the direction that the industry is moving towards.
- Garbage & Recycling
- Cardboard Recycling

- Leaf Bag Program
The Leaf Bag Program was implemented to minimize the impact of leaf drop season and runs between October - January. This program helps street sweeping efforts and provides for the collection of yard waste materials like leaves and small branches. Once the bags are filled, they should be put at the curbside next to your yard waste bin on your yard waste pick-up day. Only the bags provided by the City will be serviced as part of this program.
Beginning October 1, bags are provided at no cost to residents while supplies last. They are available for pick up at the following City facilities Monday - Friday:
Municipal Service Center (Corp. Yard, Bldg C), 2201 Elkins Way, 7:00am - 3:30pm
Community Center, 35 Oak Street, 8:00am - 5:00pm
City Hall (in Utility Billing), 150 City Park Way, 8:00am - 5:00pm
- Holiday Garbage Schedule
Christmas Day and New Year’s Day are the only 2 holidays during the year that affect garbage service. If your service day is on or after these holidays, and they fall on a Monday through Friday, service will be one day later for that week only. Garbage service is on regular schedule for all other holidays. If one of the above holidays falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, there is no change to your service day. Refer to the Service Guide Calendar for service days.
