
Schedule an Extra Pick Up
If you have extra garbage, recyclables or yard waste, please call the Solid Waste Division at (925) 516-6090 five days in advance of your regular pick up day to have the extra material collected.
Overfilling
The lids on garbage, recycling and yard waste carts must be closed to prevent spillage. If the lids are open because of overfilling, the carts will not be serviced. An extra fee applies if a truck must return to service an overfilled cart. If overfilling is a constant occurrence, you may need to increase your level of service with a larger cart. Call the Solid Waste Division at (925) 516-6090 or submit a Service Request to upgrade your service.
Large Items
For items such as mattresses, water heaters or appliances that will not fit in your cart, call the Solide Waste Division at (925) 516-6090 or submit a Service Request to schedule an extra pickup. A fee will apply.
Moving?
The garbage, recycling and yard waste carts belong to the City. If you are moving, call Utility Billing at (925) 516-5415 to cancel your service and schedule your last pick up day.
Replacement Carts
To have damaged carts repaired or replaced, call the Solid Waste Division at (925) 516-6090 or submit a Service Request.
Cart Identification
Each cart has a unique ID number on the front. Check it to be sure you are bringing in your own cart from the curb.

Trash, Recycling and Yard Waste Service
EThe City of Brentwood operates its own Sanitation Department under the supervision and coordination of the Public Works Department. The Sanitation Department is responsible for the collection of trash, recycling and yard waste for single-family homes and Brentwood Forest Condominiums. This service is offered at no charge to residents.
Optional bulk pickup and additional collection days are available for a small fee.
Optional services at a discounted rate are available for residents in which the head of household is at least age 65 or for residents with a medical condition that prohibits them from placing refuse receptacles curbside. Proof of eligibility is required. Optional Services Discount Form

Garbage / Recycling
The City of Brentwood has been operating its own Solid Waste Division since 1994. Its collection program has been a leader in the County's recycling efforts with its innovative, user-friendly containerized recycling programs. Brentwood was one of the first cities in the County and the state to implement city-wide yard waste collection; and its single-stream recycling collection is now the direction that the industry is moving towards.

The City offers a free Cardboard Drop-Off, and is for cardboard only - no garbage or any other items are allowed. The cardboard boxes must be flattened and placed in one of the bins located at 2300 Elkins Way, off of Sunset Road. The hours are Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Leaf Bag Program was implemented to minimize the impact of leaf drop season and runs between October - January. This program helps street sweeping efforts and provides for the collection of yard waste materials like leaves and small branches. Once the bags are filled, they should be put at the curbside next to your yard waste bin on your yard waste pick-up day. Only the bags provided by the City will be serviced as part of this program.
Beginning October 1, bags are provided at no cost to residents while supplies last. They are available for pick up at the following City facilities Monday - Friday:
Municipal Service Center (Corp. Yard, Bldg C), 2201 Elkins Way, 7:00am - 3:30pm
Community Center, 35 Oak Street, 8:00am - 5:00pm
City Hall (in Utility Billing), 150 City Park Way, 8:00am - 5:00pm
- Holiday Garbage Schedule
Christmas Day and New Year’s Day are the only 2 holidays during the year that affect garbage service. If your service day is on or after these holidays, and they fall on a Monday through Friday, service will be one day later for that week only. Garbage service is on regular schedule for all other holidays. If one of the above holidays falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, there is no change to your service day. In accordance with the adopted 2018 Water, Waste Water and Solid Waste rate studies, fees will increase on July 1, 2021. To see the adopted rate studies click here.
You will receive a monthly bill for water, sewer and garbage services. Monthly billings will be distributed according to the chart below. To find the zone that your property is located in refer to the Cycle Map.

A delinquency penalty of five percent (5%) will be applied if your payment is not received by your due date. If payment is not received within sixty (60) days after the billing, water service will be subject to disconnection.

Residential Service:
Water - meters are read monthly. One unit = 1,000 gallons.

Sewer charges on existing accounts are recalculated each July and are based on average winter metered water use. |
Garbage is serviced weekly. Recycling and yard waste are serviced on alternate weeks. Refer to the Brentwood Solid Waste Garbage, Recycling & Yard Waste Service Guide for further information.
Your garbage price is based on the size of the brown household trash cart that you select. There are three sizes. Regardless of the size of your brown cart, you can choose any of the three sizes for your blue recycling cart and your green yard waste cart.

In addition, new customers will be charged a one-time, non refundable application fee of $43.89 which will appear on your first utility bill.
