Superior browser for iPhones

The Offerup filter lets you find people selling a specific item you want to buy base on their distance

Chrome is one of the software that has set the bar for other browsers. The software has the same performance as its Windows and Android version, which is much better than Apple's Safari browser. You can expect most websites to load faster on Chrome than on your iPhone's default browser.

On the other hand, the performance can be a problem for your device's CPU. Chrome will take up most of your phone's CPU performance. This can slow down your iPhone and take up most of your battery.

User convenience features

Since Chrome is a part of Google, the app works well with Gmail, YouTube, and other software from the company. If you have a link in Gmail message, it will open in Chrome instead of Safari. YouTube links will also open to the iPhone app instead of the browser only.

Chrome's voice search is more accurate than Safari. This helps you avoid typing in your search query.

The browser app will sync all of your data across your iPhone, Mac, Android phones, and Window computer. Chrome will have your browser history, saved passwords, and bookmarks available on all devices that have the software installed. This helps you go back to sites you visited on your computer or access accounts without having to remember your password.

Where can you run this program?

The Chrome app for iPhone is compatible with iOS or better.

Is there a better alternative?

Apart from Safari, another alternative browser that can match Chrome is Firefox. Mozilla's browser has privacy in mind with its Enhanced Tracking Protection and Private Browsing mode.

Our take

Chrome will take up most of a phone or computer’s performance no matter which device it will run on. In return, the browser runs faster than the built-in software for iPhones. You can also sync all of your browser history, passwords, and other data with the app. It is also handy to have links from other Google apps to open on Chrome and vice versa.

Should you download it?

Yes. Chrome still provides a better user experience on iPhones and other Apple devices.

Chrome drops new home screen widgets for iOS and iPadOS

Google has just rolled out a brand new version of its Chrome browser for iPhones and iPads, finally bringing in new widgets, as well as squashing bugs.

As part of the version update, which landed on the App Store on May 10, Chrome is the most recent Google app to drop a set of bespoke home screen widgets.

Last year, iOS 14 first introduced widgets to the iPhone, where they've quickly become a mainstay of the user experience. Google has been rather sluggish in updating its iOS apps, sometimes lagging behind in adding support for certain features.

The same applies to its widgets: Google is still adding them to their iOS apps nearly a year after iOS 14 landed. That's until now, as Google's new nifty selection of home screen widgets allow iPhone and iPad users to quickly view upcoming calendar appointments, boost web browsing and much more.

How to add Google's new widgets

Adding widgets

After you have installed the latest Chrome update on your iPhone or iPad running iOS/iPadOS 14, you should be able to see three new widgets — Search, Chrome Dino Game and Quick Actions.

Adding these new Chrome widgets is the same process as it is for other iOS/iPadOS widgets. Press down on the home screen for three seconds before the screen's icons perform their familiar wiggle motion. Tap "Edit Home Screen," and then press the "+" icon in the upper-left corner of the screen.

Once completed, scroll downwards, click the Google Chrome shortcut, and then select any of the three options now available. You can hold and drag the widget or, as is custom to Apple devices, click the "Add Widget" button at the bottom of your screen.

New widgets, new abilities

So, what do the widgets do? Quick Actions adds several useful Chrome shortcuts, adding incognito mode, a search bar, voice search and a QR code scanner.

Search is just a smaller-scale version of that widget, including a straightforward search bar to handle internet searches. Chrome Dino, well, if you haven't seen it before, it's the silly but endlessly fun Google game that lets users dodge pterodactyls and cacti as a digital dinosaur runs across the screen.

All in all, there are some pretty handy updates to be had here. It's always nice to see Google embracing the more light-hearted side of its brand through the Chrome Dino widget, especially to offset the more serious Chrome security fixes that have recently hit the headlines.

why with all of the unexpected crashes

the app has been crashing unexpectedly and randomly crashes for months on end for me and I don’t know weather or not the app can’t handle all the searches I do on the actual app itself or my iPad Pro can’t handle the searches from the Chrome app leading to a crash. And for further notice, it’s been behaving like this for me for 2 years now and my perspective is the Chrome app can only handle limited searches were the desktop version can handle nearly insane amounts of searches depending on the laptop or computer and experiencing sudden random crashes almost makes me think weather the Chrome app has a hidden bug or something like that or an hidden virus possibly. So developers do the best of your knowledge to fix and repair it now please because it gets on my nerves if something doesn’t work properly

CAN’T Download PDFs

I like google chrome, but I really dislike that I cannot download simple files that I need to save to my phone, because of some error that keep refusing to let me save or download any PDF. It keeps on telling me that “The file could not be downloaded at this time.” I thought I tonight be because I wasn’t running the latest version of chrome, but even after the update, it still shows the same error message. I’m going to leave it as 1 star, so the issue is noticed and hopefully fixed ASAP, thanks! Also if you can make it an option to set the tabs to line up like back to back like it used to, that would be amazing, because me personally, I enjoyed the old Tabs set up over the newer one, as it makes it much easier to bring older tabs to the front if I wanted to, where as the next window tabs set up, makes it a slow and frustrating hassle, especially when you missplace the tab and have to start all over again, just annoying and frustrating. Please consider making it an option to have it set up stacked or windowed and let the people choose the way their tabs are set-up.

Absolutely Horrible

Every browser on mobile is terrible in one way or another but Google Chrome has one thing that makes it especially terrible: the close all tabs button. It’s in the worst possible place on the screen if you have an iphone newer than the 8 and it’s way too easy to hit. Never, ever ever have I hit the button to close all tabs and meant to do so, only ever accidentally and in the worst possible times. That button should not be on the screen at all, much less right where it’s easy to hit. It’s not possible to reopen all the tabs because the history doesn’t include enough of them so I’m completely out of luck trying to go back to all the important websites I had open. Remove the button. No one uses it, it’s unnecessary and should be in the options menu, not on the main screen. I only use google chrome because safari is worse and microsoft edge crashes and also closes everything I have open. Overall, it’s an okay app with a terrible layout that desperately needs to be fixed. I will update my review to 5 stars when and if they remove the close all tabs button.

4 reasons to set Chrome as your default browser on iOS

Chrome

Article's hero media

With iOS 14, you can now change your default browser (the browser that automatically opens links) to Chrome on your iPhone or iPad. If you already use Chrome on your computer, Chrome on iOS delivers the same familiar and easy-to-use experience, with a look and feel that’s right at home on your iPhone or iPad. Here are four reasons you should try it—including a couple of recently released features and some new ones coming soon.

1. Your Chrome on any device

When you’re signed in to your Google account you can sync Chrome across your phone, tablet or computer so your passwords, payment details, autofill information and bookmarks are automatically available on all of those devices. No need to take out your credit card or type in your address if you need to buy something while you’re on the go.

Chrome also makes switching between devices really easy. From the search bar of Chrome for desktop or the sharing menu of Chrome for iOS, you can send a tab to another signed-in device with just a click. If you find a recipe on your computer, you can easily pull up your recent tabs and open it up on your phone to check the ingredient list while you're out shopping.

2. Get organized and be productive

The tab grid in Chrome for iOS already gives you an easy way to view and organize your tabs, and you can save a tab to your Reading List to read later, even if you’re offline. If you want to quickly share one of those tabs with a friend, we’re adding the ability to generate QR code that will take them right to that website. We’re also adding a download manager—one of our most-requested features—so you have a download folder to store and find files you’ve saved from Chrome.

If you have an iPad, you can now drag and drop links from Chrome to another app (and vice versa) when you’re in Split View. We’re also working on a feature that will let you open multiple windows in Chrome on iPad so you can view two tabs at one time. Chrome already supports mouse usage on iPadOS, and soon we’re adding support for Scribble integrations with the Apple Pencil for those who prefer writing over typing or tapping.

3. Feel safe browsing the web

Chrome keeps your information secure, so you don’t have to be a security expert to feel safe on the web. Its built-in password manager generates unique passwords, securely stores them, and helps you identify and fix compromised passwords. For an added layer of protection, soon you will be able to use your fingerprint to confirm your identity when filling in passwords in Chrome. Plus, the password manager can now autofill saved Chrome login details into other apps or browsers. In addition to helping you with your passwords, Chrome on iOS now includes Google Safe Browsing, which alerts you with a warning before you open a potentially dangerous site.

4. The browser with Google built in

Chrome is built with Google Search at the core, which means you get answers quickly with personalized search results and instant answers that appear as you type. Google Translate is also integrated into Chrome so you can automatically translate sites in over languages with a single click. And the “Articles for You” section of the Chrome new tab page brings you articles, stories and blogs from around the web, tailored to your interests.

To set Chrome as your default browser, you’ll need to first make sure your iPhone or iPad is running iOS 14 and you have Chrome installed. Then complete the following steps:

  1. Visit iPhone Settings, scroll down until you see “Chrome” and tap on it

  2. Tap on “Default Browser App”

  3. Choose “Chrome”
