Grieving During the Holidays
Introducing Heartland Funeral Home
At Heartland Funeral Home in Brandon, SD, you can count on a variety of services at all price levels, ranging from the most simple and basic to the complex and luxurious. A list of the services and product options we offer is below. Call us for any questions about how we can help make this entire process easier for you.
A traditional funeral service includes a viewing or visitation where attendees can pay their respects to the family, a funeral ceremony usually including prayers, eulogies, readings and music, and burial at the gravesite. There may also be a funeral reception for family and friends of the deceased to come together after the burial.
Followed by Cremation
This option, also called a full service cremation, includes a viewing or visitation, a funeral service and basic cremation services. The cremated ashes are placed in an urn which can be buried below or above ground, scattered or kept by the family.
Direct cremation is where the deceased is cremated shortly after death, without any viewing/visitation, funeral service or another formal ceremony. Many of the traditional steps can be eliminated, making this is an inexpensive funeral option, great for price-conscious consumers.
with Memorial Service
This option includes a direct cremation where the deceased is cremated shortly after death with no viewing/visitation, but a memorial service is held to celebrate the life of the loved one. The urn containing the cremated ashes can be present during the memorial service.
All Active, Retired or Former Heroes including 9-1-1 Responders, Military, Firefighters, Law Enforcement Officers, Dispatchers and Correctional Officers who held either full-time or part-time positions.
In gratitude for their service, all qualifiying heroes will receive up to a 10% discount on all services and a FREE brass urn ($300 value) OR a veteran’s sealed vault.
• Immediate Burial with No Service
• Transition Body Between Funeral Homes
• Body Prep for Medical Science Programs
Note: You will not be charged for small requests such as additional viewings or storage.

Todd is incredibly honest, caring and compassionate. His attention to detail makes a hard situation so much easier. His approach is so gentle and he cared for my family so well as we planned my mom’s service. He took care of things before we even asked. Marie was also so personable and comforting. They did such a great job of organizing everything and added a personal touch. I highly recommend Todd and Heartland to take care of your loved one.
Thank you isn't enough to show our appreciation for everything you did for us and our family during our loss of Noah. We've never felt more at home or like family than we did with you. We appreciate and are beyond thankful for everything you did and for who you are!
Todd and Staff,
I can’t thank you enough for the care you have given me, my family, and our lil’ Noah. Your compassion and gentleness through all of this have brought great comfort. Your honesty, flexibility and patience have also been noted. You help make the worst experience ever more bearable! You have made a difference to me and friends that have worked through you. You make this world a better place as well. Thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus.
Thank you so much for all your help! You did such a great job, and so professional! I feel like you and your staff went above and beyond to make sure all turned out well.
My family and I wish to give a huge, heartfelt thank you to Todd Winkel at Heartland Funeral Home in Brandon for making Scott's Celebration a beautiful memory and a great success.
Todd, you went way above and beyond to make Scott's Celebration the beautiful memory that it is; it will forever be in our hearts. We are all amazed at the time, compassion and work you put into making this a wonderful Memorable Tribute in Scott's honor. You worked closely with us/me to be sure everything was in place per our expectations. (sorry even after you called, I forgot the guest book). We realize you had last-minute hurdles to jump when certain areas of the program fell through, we have no idea how you did it, Todd, but you made it happen, and we are forever grateful to you! Scott would be so proud. THANK YOU!
Forever grateful, Virginia & Scott Middlen Family

My dad’s funeral was on July 2nd. My brother and I were flying blind planning the funeral and dealing with everything after someone passes away. Todd was absolutely amazing. He was kind, understanding and honest about the process, not to mention how genuine he is. He went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and more. The entire family of Evelyn Schnabel wishes to thank you for your outstanding services and your caring, compassionate attitude. During such a difficult time, you thought of everything and took care of all the little details that made all the difference. You were very thorough answering questions and did everything you said you would do and then some. Mom looked so nice and natural it was if you knew her personally. It takes a special person to do what you do and so many friends and family members commented how beautiful the whole ceremony was. What a great send off for Mom.
Just wanted to say a big thank you for your kind words and your excellent customer service that you gave to our family in the passing of our mother. I felt very comfortable with you taking care of the arrangements. Thanks again for your great hospitality.
Thank you so much for your kindness during the difficult time of letting Steve go and letting him be with Our Heavenly Father. Your love and kindness have given me a faith in humanity…that there are people out there that still really care for us during our times of trials and difficulties. I cannot express how much what you have done for Steve’s family and I with your show of faith and love. Thank you so much.
We just want to thank you, again, for your caring and compassion shown towards us during a difficult time. We felt you were truly concerned about our departed loved one, Ed Katasabek, and you helped to guide us through the process with patience and thoughtfulness. We appreciate all you’ve done to ease our concerns. You’ve done a beautiful job on everything!
I just wish to thank everyone for the concern and outstanding acts of kindness you gave my parents Russ and Carol Bass at the passing of my brother Bruce Bass.
Right from the moment they walked thru your doors to the above and beyond the call of duties after his passing. Everybody was so kind and caring and I understand why you do the things you do. It takes special people to do this and I am most grateful you were there to help.

The worst kept secret in Illinois may have been the idea that there were returning to the mandates of masks, distancing, and frequent disinfecting. Frankly, we haven't gone away from those things too much, and we've followed our families' directions on how they felt about masking and distance in the interim. We reopened our kitchen (lounge), and it remains open. The moments away from the chapel to get a short break or have a conversation with a person you may not have seen for years, or the need for a bit of refreshment to maintain physical, mental and spiritual strength, are all vital in this process. We learned just how vital it was when it was taken away from us to offer families. It's allowed, and this area is open for your use. If our house is your house in your time of need, that includes the kitchen. Also, continue to feel free to bring pictures and personal effects of your loved one. It personalizes the service immensely and honors them. We only have one chance to really say farewell in the most meaningful way we can. At Anderson-Goodale, we wish for you to do this the best way possible.
