Logitech G29 Turning Problem
In F1 2020, I've spent a few hours trying to figure out why the F1 car can't turn enough in the more tighter corners. I'm using a Logitech G29 on a PC. Can anybody share their settings both in-game and in the Logitech G-Hub? I always end-up off-track.

Best F1 2020 Wheel Settings for Logitech G29 / G920

I also have wheel settings available for F1 2021.

F1 2020 plays really well with a wheel once it is configured properly. Unfortunately, much like earlier games in the series, the default settings for the Logitech G29 or G920 don't do the game justice. The steering angle, in particular, needs to be set properly for the game to be even playable. The force feedback is overly strong and feels fairly dead, but can be improved a lot with the right settings, giving a much better driving experience.

A lot of people mistakenly believe that maximizing the force feedback settings means the force feedback is more "realistic." This is not true on any wheel, but especially weaker, lower-end wheels. The purpose of the force feedback is to give you information about the track surface and how much grip the tires have. Much of this information would be felt through g-forces and the shaking of the car itself in real life. In a simulated game, however, all we have is the wheel itself, so we have to make concessions to realism to get more information to the player. Lowering the strength of the big forces allows the wheel to still give important information about the track when you are in a high speed corner, for instance.

In this guide, we will first look at the settings you need to set in G HUB, if playing on a PC. Then we will look at the in-game settings to improve the force feedback.

G HUB Settings

The default steering angle in this game uses the full rotation of your wheel which is way too much for an F1 car. They typically have a maximum 360° rotation, meaning you can turn the wheel 180° to the left and 180° to the right. While technically possible to set this in-game, it's much easier to simply set this in G HUB.

Create a new profile for F1 2020 with the following settings:

F1 2020 Settings

In Game Options > Settings > Controls, Vibration & Force Feedback > Logitech G29 / G920 > Calibration:

SettingValue
Steering Deadzone0
Steering Linearity10
Steering Saturation0

I raise the Steering Linearity to make the wheel a little less sensitive when the wheel is centered, though this is purely personal preference.

In Game Options > Settings > Controls, Vibration & Force Feedback > Logitech G29 / G920 > Vibration & Force Feedback:

SettingValue
Vibration & Force FeedbackOn
Vibration & Force Feedback Strength45
On Track Effects25
Rumblestrip Effects30
Off Track Effects25
Wheel Damper0
Understeer EnhanceOff

Vibration & Force Feedback Strength is the overall strength of the force feedback. Raising it too much starts to overwhelm the wheel, making the wheel feel heavy and lifeless. I find the range of 45-50 works best.

On Track Effects is the vibrations felt based on the track surface.

Rumblestrip Effects is the vibration felt when running over a kerb.

Off Track Effects is the vibration felt when you leave the track.

Wheel Damper makes the wheel feel heavier.

Understeer Enhance drastically lightens the wheel when you start to understeer. I find this more distracting than anything. The wheel lightens so much when you start to understeer that it feels more like the wheel is broken rather than something that is happening to the car.

Conclusion

With the steering angle set correctly and the force feedback set properly, the game feels really good on these lower end wheels. It's not the most amazing force feedback ever, but it works fine. If you have a VR headset, you may be interested to know that F1 2020 works surprisingly well in VR using VorpX.

F1 2020 Wheel Settings – Best Force Feedback Settings

Update – Read our F1 2021 wheel settings guide here

The official F1 2020 game is upon us, and with that come a host of sim racers trying to correctly setup their racing wheel for the season ahead. Before jumping in to the new My Team game mode, every wheel racer should start by setting up their racing wheel correctly.

Below, we have collated a selection of racing wheel settings, to give you the best force feedback while racing.

We have included recommended settings for a wide selection of racing wheels. Included are recommended F1 2020 force feedback settings for the Logitech G29, Thrustmaster T300 and all Fanatec racing wheels.

F1 2020 Force Feedback Settings Explained

To adjust the in-game force feedback wheel settings in F1 2020, you should jump straight in to the vibration and force feedback menu. The settings are very similar to those which were present in the previous F1 2019. So using your setup from your F1 2019 wheel settings would work well here.

F1 2019 Force Feedback Settings

Vibration & Force Feedback Strength

The first menu item, vibration and force feedback strength is the overall strength setting. Increasing this will increase the strength of all force feedback sent in to your wheel.

Try to stay away from setting this to 100% strength, as you can run in to clipping issues. Clipping is where the force feedback peaks above 100%, causing a loss in force feedback fidelity, and a spike in the wheel force feedback.

On Track Effects

On track effects is the measure of how you feel the road through the wheel. Elements such as uneven road surfaces, marbles off the racing line, and the white lines around the track are all covered in this section.

This higher you set this option, the more you will feel all of these road effects.

Rumble Strip Effects

The rumble strip effects is very similar to the on track effects. However this setting kicks in when you drive over any kerb on the edge of a track. The higher this setting is, the more brutal the kerbs will be, and the harder it will be to drive over them.

Off Track Effects

Again, this setting is similar to the two above, but it controls the strength of force feedback when you come off track. If you want a realistic experience, you can increase this to make the car hard to control on the grass and gravel.

We would recommend lowering this setting a little, just so it is a bit easier for you to get back on to track.

Wheel Damper

This setting, affects how heavy your racing wheel is in the F1 2020 game. It adds a dampening effect to the force feedback, making your wheel heavier to turn.

Unlike road cars, which can have heavy wheel damping, F1 cars have very good power steering. This makes the steering wheel rather light and easy to turn. You should look to emulate this to some degree in F1 2020.

Understeer Enhance

The understeer enhance setting produces an artificial sensation of understeer in your wheel. This is strange the first time you feel it, as almost all force feedback disappears and the wheel becomes very light. We aren’t big fans of this setting, but it can be helpful to help you discover the limits of grip.

Recommended FFB Settings

Below are our recommended force feedback settings for F1 2020. All of these give you a good starter for ten, and will give you a good base wheel setup.

You can use these as a base, and then adjust them to suit your own driving style from there. If you prefer the kerbs to be a little harsher, or the wheel a little heavier, you can use our overview above to change each individual setting.

For both Fanatec and Thrustmaster wheels, you also have the option to adjust the force feedback settings directly on the wheel itself. We have included these options for those wheels so you know exactly what you are changing. Ensure you do actually change the wheel settings as well as the in-game settings, otherwise the wheel may not feel right.

Thrustmaster T300 Force Feedback Settings

The Thrustmaster T300, more so than other wheels, suffers with a light feeling when driving Formula 1 cars. However the wheel itself becomes rather heavy when making large inputs, such as during slower hairpin corners. To combat this we recommend taking out all wheel damping. The below settings should allow for maximum force feedback detail to come through the wheel of the Thrustmaster.

Thrustmaster Gain Settings

  • Overall strength of all forces: 75%
  • Constant: 100%
  • Periodic: 100%
  • Spring: 0%
  • Damper: 0%
  • Auto-Center: By the game

In-Game Settings:

  • Vibration & FFB: On
  • Vibration & FFB Strength: 95
  • On Track Effects: 35
  • Rumble Strip Effects: 40
  • Off Track Effects: 25
  • Wheel Damper: 10
  • Understeer Enhance: Off

Logitech G29 Force Feedback Settings

These settings should give you a good base to work from, but feel free to adjust them up or down to suit your own driving style. We would recommend increasing the throttle linearity to 20 to give a slightly softer initial input on the throttle. This helps to avoid wheel spin on corner exit, and lets you better manage the throttle Also we increased the brake saturation to 5 to give a little extra responsiveness to the pedal.

In-Game Settings:

  • Vibration & FFB: On
  • Vibration & FFB Strength: 100
  • On Track Effects: 40
  • Rumble Strip Effects: 50
  • Off Track Effects: 20
  • Wheel Damper: 15
  • Understeer Enhance: Off

Logitech G923 Force Feedback Settings

The Logitech G923 feels very similar to the older G29 and G920. And the TrueForce feature doesn’t add much if anything to the overall F1 2020 experience.

In-Game Settings:

  • Vibration & FFB: On
  • Vibration & FFB Strength: 100
  • On Track Effects: 40
  • Rumble Strip Effects: 45
  • Off Track Effects: 20
  • Wheel Damper: 15
  • Understeer Enhance: Off

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I run force feedback strength at 100%?

This depends on the wheel you are using. For example a Fanatec CSL Elite can be run at 100% FFB strength as it is a weaker wheel. However you would want to run a direct drive wheel at 100% FFB as it would be too strong. View our list for full settings.

What is the purpose of the torque key for a Fanatec Podium wheel?

A torque key is provided with Fanatec direct drive wheels to allow you to unlock the full strength of the wheel. This is so you can lock the strength to a weaker setting to avoid people injuring themselves. The strength of direct drive wheels is so strong that it can really hurt someone younger.

How do I change Thrustmaster wheel settings?

You can change your Thrustmaster wheel settings in the tuning menu in the Thrustmaster control panel. This is also where you calibrate your wheel.
