Thanks for the info. I have a loader on it can I leave it on and use it to keep the front end from rolling on me? Just set it on the shop floor and fill it full of feed sacks or something?

Chris, I'll try to get it apart by this weekend. Once I see what's shot, I'll give you a hollar and price some stuff. Abilene was:

About $650 total. And like I said, I don't know if I need all that or not, he just priced me the entire thing. Can I do a rear main seal at this time too? Is it hard? If I got her split, I want to do all I can. This tractor leaks at every joint just about. Not bad, just enough to collect dirt and make a mess.

South central ILClutch went out on my 4020 JD. Now I am going to break it down and put in a new one. My mechanic said to put in a 5 button Clutch. What are your opinions. Where is the best place to get a clutch for it. I will mostly be watching. Friend is doing the replacing for me. I plan on learning a lot.

The trick is to not slip them, either engage or disengage. Feathering the clutch especially when doing loader work will eat up a flywheel and pressure plate if using a button style clutch, much more so than with an organic clutch disk. JMHO. Good luck.

moraunique clutch joneburg?(just west of st louis) is pretty good. a lot cheaper than mother deere and others. did me well on a 4320. guys name is snake. i can get a number if you want. stay away from the button if you are in any type of work that requires alot of clutch work.

just a tish NE of central NDWont use button clutches here. They destroy flywheels on loader work.


Use the fiber clutch. Resurface the flywheel, replace the pilot bearing, repace the rear engine seal, replace the pressure plate, and put all new springs in the pressure plate assembly unless you want to split it again soon.

If you have a late 4020, replace the pins and seals in the pto "throw out" bearing assembly while at it.



ecmnon just about every 4020 we do no matter the style of clutch we put in the 4320 springs, or drop a washer in the spring cup to add a little more clamping force.

South central ILThanks for all the replies. The tractor has a loader on it. Started it every morning and rarely shut it off for the last 20 years around my dairy farm. Sold cows last year, so it dont get used as much . Still use it for light loader work, mostly mowing and augers now.

South central ILGot tractor split this morning. Clutch taken out. Fly wheel off to the machine shop to get turned. Took the remain seal and housing off. Took the the pto hydro housing out so we can replace the packings . Went really good. I hope it goes back to gather as well. Remain was starting to leak a little so it was time to replace it.
