Character Discussion 40 and 60 Years Old Straw Hats drawn by Oda
Luffy still looks to be an active pirate. I imagine he goes from place to place, meeting new people, visiting bars, and fixing local troubles. Kinda like an extension of what Shanks did in the first chapter.
Zoro could still be traveling with Luffy, trying to hone his skills, while incorporating new styles like Yontoryu and Gotoryu. Alternatively, he could have become a teacher back at the Isshin dojo, possibly with Tashigi, who both inherited it from Koshiro after he passed away.
Nami is conning people based on her dialogue, so maybe she's still a thief. She seems like the most likely to still be traveling with Luffy due to her dream of making a map of the whole world, and there's still 3 other seas she hasn't explored.
Usopp appears to be reminiscing about the other Strawhats. My guess is he's back at Syrup Village, telling stories of his adventures with Kaya.
Sanji definitely takes over Baratie from Zeff. Since I believe the Red line dividing the world will be destroyed, the Baratie can finally, truly fulfill its dream as a roaming restaurant. Sanji could visit places from Foosha Village to Wano, serving all kinds of meals made from all sorts of fishes. Hopefully he has a companion chef with him like Pudding. Sanji is the most likely to be a father as well, and if he had a daughter, would spoil her rotten, and if it's a son, he'd treat him exactly how Zeff treated him.
Chopper is a doctor who can cure anything. Meaning his services are needed all over the globe. He might be traveling with Luffy to accomplish that, or going out on his own to prove he can fend for himself like a real monster. Another alternative is that Chopper takes over the Isshi from Dr. Kureha and trains them in his ways, and the organization expands globally. Certainly more manageable than being a sole roaming doctor.
One Piece: Every Straw Hat Characters Age, Height, And Birthday
One Piece remains one of the longest-running manga a fan can enjoy, and for good reason. It's no secret that this franchise has introduced some of the strangest and most enthralling characters of any anime. Many fans love to soak up all the details about each of their favorite pirates.

While many of the important plot points remain lodged firmly in an average viewer’s mind, the smaller details can slip right under the radar. Even something as straightforward as heights and ages of recurring characters can become cloudy in a series as long as this one. Every once in a while, it does fans good to treat themselves to a bit of a refresher.
10 Monkey D. "Straw Hat" Luffy
- Age: 19
- Birthday: May 5
- Height: 5' "
Monkey D. Luffy, better known as "Straw Hat Luffy", is the captain and founder of the infamous Straw Hat Pirates. He remains one of its top fighters (and its most insatiable eater). Serving as the primary protagonist of One Piece, Luffy's lifelong dream is to one day become the Pirate King.
He aims to complete this lofty goal by hunting down the treasure left behind by the legendary pirate Gol D. Roger. To Luffy, becoming Pirate King represents ultimate freedom, as he believes the Pirate King would have the most freedom in the world.
9 Roronoa "Pirate Hunter" Zoro
- Age: 21
- Birthday: November 11
- Height: 5' 11"
Roronoa Zoro is also known as "Pirate Hunter" Zoro. He's one of the Straw Hat Pirates' two main swordsmen, and was the first pirate besides Luffy himself to join the crew.
Originally a bounty hunter, Zoro seeks to become the greatest swordsman in the world. He dreams of this in order to one day honor a promise he made to his deceased childhood friend Kuina. So far in the series, he's doing excellent work at honing his craft.
8 "Cat Burglar" Nami
- Age: 20
- Birthday: July 3
- Height: 5' 7”
"Cat Burglar" Nami is the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates, and the second to join the crew after Zoro. Formerly a member of the Arlong Pirates, Nami had initially joined the Straw Hats in an attempt to rob them blind; she sought the Straw Hats' fortune in her attempts to buy her village back from Arlong.
Once the Straw Hats rebelled against Arlong, Nami officially joined the crew as a legitimate member. Having freed the village from Arlong, Nami set out with the Straw Hats on her dream to map the entire world.
7 "God" Usopp
- Age: 19
- Birthday: April 1
- Height: 5' "
"God" Usopp serves as Straw Hats' sniper. Usopp was raised in Syrup Village, acting as the "captain" of the Usopp Pirates (a group of delinquent children under his command). He was the third member to join Luffy's crew.
After Usopp helped the Straw Hats defeat the deadly Black Cat Pirates, Luffy gave him the opportunity to join the crew. Although some may describe Usopp as a bit of a coward, he hopes to eventually become a bold seafaring warrior like his father.
6 Vinsmoke "Black Leg" Sanji
- Age: 21
- Birthday: March 2
- Height: 5' 11”
Vinsmoke "Black Leg" Sanji serves as the cook for the Straw Hat Pirates. As the fourth member of the crew to join, Sanji boasts formidable fighting skills alongside his culinary expertise. Born a son to the Vinsmoke Family, Sanji rejected his princely birthright and disowned his family.

After fleeing the Vinsmokes, he was cared for by Zeff, former captain of the Cook Pirates. In exchange, he worked as the sous chef of the Baratie, Zeff's ocean-faring restaurant. He would remain on the Baratie until he met Luffy, who offered Sanji an opportunity to join the Straw Hats. Sanji dreams of finding the mythical chef's paradise, All Blue.
5 Tony Tony "Cotton Candy Lover" Chopper
- Age: 17
- Birthday: December 24
- Height: 2' " (Hybrid Form)
Often mistaken for the crew's pet, Tony Tony Chopper is actually the doctor of the Straw Hat Pirates, and the fifth crewmember to join. Chopper was once a normal reindeer before eating the Hito Hito no Mi, a Devil Fruit that allows for the transformation into human hybrid (or even a full human) at the consumer's will.
After his transformation, Chopper learned the basics of medicine from his parental figures, Doctors Hiriluk and Kureha. As part of Luffy's crew, Chopper's dream is to one day discover the cure to any and every disease. He travels the world in hopes of becoming such a doctor.
4 Nico "Devil Child" Robin
- Age: 30
- Birthday: February 6
- Height: 6' 2"
Nico "Devil Child" Robin (also known as the "Light of the Revolution") acts as the archaeologist of the Straw Hat Pirates, and was the sixth crewmember to join. As a child, Robin ate the Hana Hana no Mi, a Devil Fruit that allowed her to manifest parts of her body (or even her entire body) on any surface. In addition, she is currently the only person alive with the ability to decipher Poneglyphs, a skill forbidden by the World Government.
Robin was initially opposed to the Straw Hat Pirates in her role as the vice president of Baroque Works, before eventually joining the crew. Her dream is to uncover the Rio Poneglyph. This artifact is rumored to reveal the true history of the world, as much of history had been erased by the World Government.
3 "Iron Man" Franky
- Age: 36
- Birthday: March 9
- Height: 7' "
"Iron Man" Franky works as shipwright for the Straw Hat Pirates. The seventh member of the crew to join, he chose the nickname of "Franky" as a means of hiding his identity. Surviving a rough childhood, he came to be a member of Tom's Workers, a collection of highly-respected shipwrights. A devastating incident later resulted in Franky being badly wounded, requiring his transformation into a cyborg.

Franky and his followers were initially opponents of the Straw Hats. However, circumstances later forced them to become allies. Once the antagonism waned, Frank saw Luffy's crew as an opportunity to fulfill his dream of creating a ship that could navigate the entire world. He constructed the Thousand Sunny, the second ship of the Straw Hat Pirates, and joined the crew to chase his dream.
2 "Soul King" Brook
- Age: 90
- Birthday: April 3
- Height: 8' "
"Soul King" Brook is the official musician of the Straw Hat Pirates. The eighth crewmember to join, Brook also serves as the second of the Straw Hats' swordsmen. Brook's powers originate from the Yomi Yomi no Mi, a Devil Fruit which gave him the ability to resurrect himself after death a single time. However, Brook learned to delve deeper into these powers, which granted him control over not only his own soul, but the souls of those around him.
Having originally served as a crewmember of the Rumbar Pirates, Brook had died and was resurrected. However, due the soul struggling to reach his abandoned body, time reduced his corpse to a mere skeleton, leaving only his iconic afro intact. Brook drifted alone for 50 years, before eventually meeting Luffy and joining the crew.
1 "Knight of the Sea" Jinbe
- Age: 44
- Birthday: April 2
- Height: 9' "
"Knight of the Sea" Jinbe acts as helmsman for the Straw Hat Pirates, and was the ninth and latest member to join the crew. Jinbe is a whale shark fish-man and, fittingly, is a master of "Fish-Man Karate". Jinbe was once a member of the the Sun Pirates, and became their captain after the original captain's death. He rose to become one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, although he resigned this post during the Summit War of Marineford.
During this war, Jinbe befriended Luffy, and eventually allied with the Straw Hats to prevent a coup against the Ryugu Kingdom's Neptune Royal Family. In gratitude, Luffy invited him to join his crew . Jinbe's dream is to find a way to fulfill his former captain's dying wish of peace, coexistence, and understanding between humans and fish-men.

One Piece: Every Straw Hat Pirates Age, Height, And Birthday
The world of One Piece is wonderful and fanciful on the outside, with dark and mysterious undertones lurking beneath the surface. The cheery but righteous Straw Hat crew are a breath of fresh air in a world that's become used to injustice, and they can bring a smile to anyone's face.

With that said, there's a lot of questions about the Straw Hats' appearances due to Eiichiro Oda's drawing style and lack of specific details within the story about a character's age. It's almost impossible to tell how tall some characters actually are due to the wild body proportions of One Piece characters, but the data is all there somewhere.
Updated September 20, by Mark Sammut: One Piece's Straw Hats are anime and manga icons. Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and company all have memorable designs, unique personalities, and fun powers. While some characters contribute more consistently to the story than others, each member has their share of unforgettable moments. As this grand adventure steadily approaches its closing years, the Straw Hats' roster is unlikely to expand beyond its current formation. To make each character's age, height, and birthday as easy to find as possible, the information has been streamlined into a table. Vivi has also been added because she was part of the crew for a time.
One Piece Statistics Chart
At this point in One Piece, it seems unlikely that the Straw Hats will welcome a new member into the crew, although there is always a chance that Eiichiro Oda will surprise readers. Still, the current lineup could very well be the final one; therefore, for easy access, the Straw Hats' personal information has been included in the following table.
Note: For the characters' ages and heights, the pre and post-timeskip information are provided. The first bullet point covers the former while the second point relates to the latter. Also, the height's feet and inches data have been rounded up.
|Monkey D. Luffy|
|Tony Tony Chopper|
Monkey D. Luffy was born on May 5, which is Children's Day in Japan. Children's Day takes place during Golden Week, where children get a short vacation from school and are celebrated for their personalities and happiness. It reflects Luffy's personality perfectly since he's the most happy-go-lucky guy in all of One Piece.

As the captain of the Straw Hats, Luffy is the glue that keeps everyone together. His drive for adventure and willingness to help those who are prepared to ask for it makes Luffy an enigmatic figure that naturally attracts other pirates (or bounty hunters) to him.
Roronoa Zoro is the stoic right-hand man of Luffy who always does what's best for the longevity of the Straw Hat Pirates while looking for his next great battle. Zoro has a level head compared to Luffy and is capable of making more stable decisions, which could be a product of his age since the swordsman is two years older than his captain.
Zoro is vicious in battle, arguably the most out of any Straw Hat barring perhaps Nico Robin. Dependable in most areas that do not have to do with giving directions, Zoro steps up to the plate even in the direst of situations, such as Kuma's appearance in the Thriller Bark arc.
Nami is the navigator and treasurer of the Straw Hats, and she has a bunch of other skills and small roles as well. Just like most of the women in One Piece, Nami is quite tall. Although only slightly older than Luffy, Nami occasionally plays the part of the mature sibling; however, this primarily comes down to the fact that she is one of the more cautious members of the Straw Hats. That said, she is pretty dangerous with her Clima-Tact.

Nami's birthday is July 3rd, making her a Cancer. Cancers are generally thought to be well versed in emotion, and Nami is possibly the most compassionate Straw Hat given the right circumstances. She can certainly be greedy and cut-throat, but when it comes to protecting the weak, she's the first to put her life on the line.
Usopp is the same age as Luffy and acts similar to his captain in many ways when it comes to having fun. Usopp standout from Luffy due to his risk-aversion mentality, as the Straw Hat is well aware that he is vulnerable in battle.
Usopp's birthday is April 1st, otherwise known as April Fool's Day. This is extremely fitting considering his tendency to prank others and spin tall tales. After his sniping skills, Usopp's imagination is his strongest weapon and the Straw Hat Pirates definitely make use of it.
Just by looking at Sanji, his age is probably the hardest to guess out of all the Straw Hat Pirates (the human ones at least). He goes for a more mature look in style and attitude making him appear older than he actually is. In the anime, Sanji is 21 years old after the time skip and his birthday is March 2nd.
RELATED: One Piece: All The Filler Arcs Ranked According To IMDb
Making up the Straw Hats' trinity of powerful fighters alongside Luffy and Zoro, Sanji's kicks are devastating, and he has consistently grown stronger throughout One Piece.
6 Tony Tony Chopper
Chopper is another character who most fans probably couldn't guess his age if they tried. Chopper is actually the youngest Straw Hat, and he is occasionally treated as Such. It is not unusual for Chopper to be parented by characters such as Robin and Zoro. His birthday is December 24th, Christmas Eve which reflects the cold climate he comes from and the fact that he was originally a reindeer.
Chopper's small size and gentle appearance are an invitation for enemies to underestimate him, but he's a fierce fighter when he has to be.
5 Nico Robin
Nico Robin is the cool and collected Straw Hat with a love for "cute things". Her personality is hard to pin down until the later parts of One Piece, but she's a fan favorite for sure. When she joined the crew, Robin was quite a mysterious figure as she kept her distance from the crew. This stemmed from her tragic backstory.
Robin's birthday is February 6th, which makes her an Aquarius which are known for their honesty and imagination. This trait is best demonstrated when she sees something cute and can't help but get starry eyes and exclaim how cute something is.
Franky is a giant. It's clear in the series but his height and scale seem to change for comedic and dramatic effect, making it difficult to tell how tall he really is. Franky's actual height is cm after the time skip, putting him up there with NBA players.
RELATED: One Piece: Devil Fruit Abilities That Can Perfectly Counter Luffy
Before joining Luffy's ragtag crew of adventurers, Franky was an adult with a career and "crew" of his own. Consequently, it made sense that he was much older than the rest of the characters who formed the Straw Hats at the time.
Brook is ACTUALLY a giant. He appears tall, lanky, and fragile since he's all bones but it's difficult to tell what his real height is. A musician, Brook brings plenty of charm and humor to the Straw Hats' travels. Although not quite reaching Zoro or Sanji's levels, Brook is a capable fighter in his own right.
While his age is around the 90 mark, Brook died at 38 and his body has been preserved since then, albeit in skeleton form.
Jinbe is the newest addition to the Straw Hats who lived during the Golden Age of pirates and led the Sun Pirates, basically as the king of the Fishman underworld. Because of this, he's older than the other Straw Hats at 46 years old.
Jinbe's height is shown to change throughout the manga and anime for scale because if his true height was shown, he might not always fit on the screen. He's a giant Fishman with the build of a blue whale and a shark. His monstrous size hides his compassionate and gentle side. His birthday is April 2nd, which makes him an Aries, a sign known for its ambition.
Nefertari Vivi was only part of the Straw Hats for a brief period, as she joined the crew during the Alabasta Saga. This whole ordeal led to the Straw Hats taking on Baroque Works, with Vivi seeking Luffy's help to free Alabasta from Crocodile's dictatorship.
Vivi left the Straw Hats straight after this arc, however, she is a crew member in spirit. As the princess of a country, Vivi can't travel the Grand Line on the Thousand Sunny with the Straw Hats, but there is no doubt that Luffy would welcome her to the crew in a heartbeat.

1-Question: Odacchi, hello! I am a big fan of both Odacchi and Luffy. I have a question today for Odacchi! When he was a kid, Monkey D. Garp’s eyes were the same as Luffy’s, big and round. However, when he became an adult, they became narrow. So what about Luffy’s eyes? Once he turns 20, will his eyes also become like Garp’s?
Oda: Okay, this question comes from a translator in Vietnam in slightly different words. In short, will Luffy’s eyes become skinny like Garp’s once he turns 20? Since he turns 20 in only a year, I don’t think Luffy will be changing too much in such a short time.
Bottom row (a future if something happened/went wrong):
Age Pirate king? It sounds like a dream
Age Oh? Did you bring good meat?
Yes. In a future where things go well, he looks quite a lot like Garp doesn’t he? But in a future where something, somehow happens then who knows!! Okay, SBS is done!! Looking forward to next time!!
2-Question: I’m a huge huge huge fan of Ace. If he didn’t die during the Summit War, what kind of face would he have? Please draw him at age 40 and age 60, Oda Eiichiro-sama~!! P.N. Daughter of Ace of the Whitebeard Crew.
Oda: Got it.
Age Yo Luffy, still the same as always
Age I’m retired
Bottom row (a future if something happened/went wrong):
Age Osu Luffy, lend me some money
Age Chopper, just a little bit from the safe….
Hard to say what would have happened over the course of his life, but I drew these two patterns (possibilities)
3-Question: Odacchi! We saw Monkey D. Luffy and Portgas D. Ace at intervals 40 and 60, so please draw Sabo at ages 40 and
Oda: Well, here I drew it, but I honestly wouldn’t be able to say if this is how he’ll end up in the future.
As you can see, Oda drew grown up Sabo at four periods of adulthood.
First where he had a nice ending. At 40, Sabo is with his extended hair and his growing moustache. At 60, Sabo holds his hair combed back, and we can see his huge scar decorating his face. This wound was caused when Saint Jalmack miserly blew up the fishing craft Sabo used to set out to sea, dropping him with severe burns and significant injuries.
Oda also thinks a fate where conditions go badly for Sabo. At 40, He looks like the rogue. He is seen twisting his moustache. At 60, he seems weak with his dirty hair and clothes.
4-Question: I want to see the future of Zoro at age 40 and 60 as well! From Captain Nobuo
Oda: If he lives on without any major problems, I think it would be something like this:
Age 40: Yontoryuu (Four sword style) Zoro
Age 60: Gotoryuu (Five sword style) Zoro
In a future where “something” happens:
Age 40: I’m quitting. Holding that katana in my mouth has made my back hurt
Age 60: I’ll do dogeza (kneeling down) if you’ll lend me some money.
Now that we have seen the official ones drawn by Oda, here are some amazing artworks based on Odas style made by @Rofta_

This 'One Piece' Art Imagines An Older Straw Hat Crew
One Piece fans loved Eiichiro Oda's drawing of an older Luffy, so much so that they began imagining an entire middle-aged Straw Hat crew.
After more than 20 years of drawing Monkey D. Luffy, Oda decided to re-imagine his iconic character aging through the years. While he is eternally a young man in the series, Oda gave some thought to a middle-aged Luffy in a sketch that made the rounds on forums and social media last month. He offered a sketch of Porgas D. Ace as well, revealing how each of them would look at 40 and 60 years old.
The portraits inspired Oda's dedicated fanbase, who used them as a springboard for their own artwork. A fan named Kim began the trend just a few days later on Twitter.
"We had aged up versions of luffy from oda recently," Kim wrote, "so *clutching fists* goodbye my babyface Luffy headcanons."
The portraits were a huge hit among fans. Kim even included drawings of characters like Brook, pointing out that they would not have aged in that time.
"Bless your op art seriously they all look so good I want to cry in appreciation," one person responded. "Even Usopp looks really good with and Sanji looks so confused but cute I love it."
The concept also took hold on the One Piece subreddit, where aged-up fan art began to surface. A sketch of Roronoa Zoro at the age of 42, by an artist named Delga Alessio captured the collective imagination.

"It does look amazing. Will you fill this out more after you're done with the other sketches?" one person commented. "I'd love to see full-fledged versions of the crew '20 years later' or even a group pic."
A few days later, the same artist posted a picture of year-old Franky, complete with a sketch of his cyborg components disassembled.

"I am simply not a fan of the boxy cartoony arms that he has, that's why i decided to use a design that is sleeker," Alessio explained.
Finally, a few days after that Alessio returned with a year-old version of Usopp.

"This looks. so. good," one person wrote. "I wonder if now he's able to use a real kg hammer."
Oda's own drawings that started the whole trend included a "bad ending" for his characters, where they aged poorly and fell into terrible health. His fans didn't seem as interested in these outcomes, focusing more on the rugged, swarthy pirate aesthetic the show is known for.
