Question:Q:Remove iPad as Speaker Option

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Question:Q:

I briefly purchased an iPad which was linked to my Apple ID. I reset the iPad to factory settings and returned the device to the store. Afterwards, I went under my Apple ID and removed the iPad as one of my devices. However, the iPad is still showing as a speaker option on my iPhone. I have searched the forum and it is advised to go to Settings > Phone > Call on Other Devices > [Remove the iPad {Disable it}] but that option is not visible in Settings. I do not have the iPad anymore and I only have my iPhone by which to make updates to my Apple ID. How can I resolve this?

Hi Waverley,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today with your iPhone that shows an iPad you no longer own as an available Speaker Option.

This may actually be the Handoff feature of Continuity. Use Handoff to continue tasks on your other devices.

"iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Go to Settings > General > AirPlay & Handoff, then turn on Handoff."

If that still doesn't resolve the issue, try restarting your iPhone while toggling off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Let us know if that doesn't resolve the issue.

Have a fantastic day!

If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker

If you can't hear a person's voice clearly, hear crackling, hear static, or have issues with sound quality, learn what to do.

Check your sound settings

If your device has a Ring/Silent switch, move the switch forward—toward the device's display—so that orange isn't showing. If you're using an iPad, you can also swipe down from the top-right corner to view Control Center and make sure that Silent Mode is off.

iPhone ring/silent switch

Open Settings > Do Not Disturb and make sure that Do Not Disturb is off.

Clean your receivers and speakers

Remove all screen protectors, films, or cases from your device. Check the speaker opening to see if it's blocked or dirty. On iPhone only, make sure that the receiver is not blocked or dirty. If necessary, clean the speaker or receiver opening with a small, soft-bristled brush. Make sure that the brush is clean and dry.

Check the sound on your device

Go to Settings > Sounds (or Settings > Sounds & Haptics), and drag the Ringer and Alerts slider back and forth a few times. If you don't hear any sound, or if your speaker button on the Ringer and Alerts slider is dimmed, your speaker might need service. Contact Apple Support for iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Try making a call

If you hear sound, try making a call with your iPhone and turn on speakerphone. On iPad or iPod touch, make a FaceTime call. If you still can't hear, or hear static or crackling, then your network or reception could be the issue. Try to call again later, or from a different location.

FaceTime isn't available in all countries or regions.

The 6 Best Speakers For iPhone And iPod - Fall Reviews

The Ultimate Ears WONDERBOOM 2 is the best Bluetooth speaker for iPhone in the budget range that we've tested. This small, portable speaker is outstandingly built, with an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, though we don't test for this. It can even be paired to up to two devices at once, which can come in handy when you quickly need to switch between audio sources.

Out-of-the-box. it has a fairly neutral sound profile, making it suitable for listening to a wide variety of audio content. It has excellent directivity thanks to its degree design, resulting in a wide and natural-sounding soundstage. While it doesn't get very loud, there isn't a lot of compression present at max volume, so your audio sounds mostly clean at louder volume levels. Also, while it struggles to reproduce low-bass, there's an 'Outdoor Mode' you can use to add extra bass to your mix, though we don't test for this.

Unfortunately, it doesn't come with more comprehensive sound customization features like a graphic EQ, so you can't tweak its sound to better suit your preferences. It also doesn't support Apple AirPlay, or voice assistants, which may disappoint some users. That said, it's still a good choice if you're an Apple user looking for a speaker on a budget.

Play audio from iPad on HomePod and other wireless speakers

You can play audio from iPad on wireless devices like HomePod, Apple TV, AirPlay 2-enabled smart TVs, and Bluetooth headphones and speakers.

Play audio from iPad on a wireless device

  1. On your iPad, open an audio app, such as Music, then choose an item to play.

  2. Tap the Playback Destination button, then choose a playback destination.

The Now Playing controls for Music. The Playback Destination button appears below the volume control.

Note: If your AirPlay 2-enabled devices don’t appear in the list of playback destinations, make sure they’re on the same Wi-Fi network. With a Bluetooth device, the playback destination returns to iPad if you move the device out of Bluetooth range.

To select the playback destination, you can also tap the Playback Destination button on the Lock Screen or in Control Center.

Note: For information about setting up a Bluetooth audio device, see Pair a Bluetooth headphone, keyboard, game controller, or other device.

Play audio on multiple AirPlay 2-enabled devices

With AirPlay 2 and iPad, you can play audio on multiple AirPlay 2-enabled devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network. For example, you can play a party playlist on HomePod speakers in the living room and kitchen, on an Apple TV in the bedroom, and on an AirPlay 2-enabled smart TV in the den.

Ask Siri. Say something like:

  • “Stop playing music everywhere”

  • “Set the dining room volume to 10 percent”

  • “What’s playing in the kitchen?”

  • “Play a song I like in the kitchen”

  • “Add the living room speaker”

  • “Remove the music from the kitchen”

  • “Move the music to the den”

You can also choose playback destinations from the iPad screen.

  1. Tap the Playback Destination button in Control Center, on the Lock Screen, or in the Now Playing controls for the app you’re listening to.

  2. Select each device you want to use.

Note: Devices arranged in a stereo pair are treated as a single audio device.

To learn more about using HomePod speakers and Apple TV, see the HomePod User Guide and Apple TV User Guide.

For a list of AirPlay 2-enabled smart TVs, see the Home accessories website.

degree audio

Jam-packed with innovation, HomePod mini delivers unexpectedly big sound for a speaker of its size. At just over 8 centimetres tall, it takes up almost no space but fills the entire room with rich &#;degree audio that sounds amazing from every angle. Add more than one HomePod mini for truly expansive sound.

Boundary-pushing computational audio

creates the full, detailed tones of a much larger speaker — and HomePod mini turns it up without missing your voice commands.

Mini sounds big.

An Apple-designed full‑range driver uses an incredibly powerful neodymium magnet to deliver deep bass and crisp high frequencies.

The unique acoustic waveguide directs sound out the bottom of the speaker, creating a ‑degree audio field for consistent sound no matter where you are in the room.

The tiny but powerful Apple S5 chip enables computational audio, which processes complex algorithms in real time, giving you balanced, fine‑tuned sound at any volume.

Apple-designed force‑cancelling passive radiators give HomePod mini incredible bass extension.

Four microphones work together to help cancel noise and listen for “Hey Siri” — even if your environment is loud, you don’t have to turn the volume down or move closer to be heard.

Designed to fit anywhere in the house

HomePod mini is designed to fit anywhere in the house. Its elegant shape is wrapped in a perfectly seamless mesh fabric that’s virtually transparent to the sound passing through it. A backlit touch surface on the top provides quick control.

A connected sound system for your whole home

With multiple HomePod mini speakers placed around the house, you can have a connected sound system for your whole home. Ask Siri to play one song everywhere or, just as easily, a different song in each room.

Stereo pair

Having powerful audio everywhere in the house couldn‘t be simpler — and each HomePod mini gives you total control, no matter where you are. HomePod mini also works with your Apple devices for features like Intercom, letting you quickly communicate by voice.

Pick up an incoming call from your iPhone, kick back with your favourite shows on Apple TV, listen to music on your Mac — HomePod mini works effortlessly with all your Apple devices and experiences to take your sound to the next level. You can even create a stereo pair — two HomePod mini speakers paired in the same room create left and right channels for fully immersive audio.

Hand off music and podcasts between HomePod mini and iPhone

If you’re enjoying music or a podcast and have to head out, you can continue to listen on your iPhone without missing a beat. Hand it off simply by bringing your iPhone close to HomePod mini. You’ll experience the feeling of your iPhone and HomePod mini connecting virtually as the sound transfers.

Hey Siri, announce,
On my way home,

want me to pick anything up?

Intercom also works with your other Apple devices

so you can send and receive messages through CarPlay while you’re driving, on your AirPods during a workout, or with your Apple Watch when you’re running errands.

HomePod mini is automatically added to the Home app

When you set up HomePod mini, it’s automatically added to the Home app, and with just your voice you can instantly control any of your HomeKit devices.

HomePod mini can also act as a home hub, letting you control your HomeKit accessories remotely. Wherever you go, you can see a live view from the front door, shut your garage and lock or unlock the house through the Home app.

The Discover tab within the Home app

Looking to learn more about the benefits of a smart home? The Discover tab in the Home app is the best place to find out what’s possible, and get recommendations on top-rated accessories that work with HomePod mini.

Privacy is essential — especially in your own home. HomePod mini is designed to keep your personal information safe and be a trusted assistant in your family’s everyday life.

HomePod mini only listens for “Hey Siri”

— so you can speak freely knowing nothing you say is sent out of your home until you activate Siri with a touch or HomePod mini hears the magic words, “Hey Siri”.

HomeKit secure video support

With HomeKit Secure Video support, HomePod mini can analyse the feeds of your supported video cameras, detecting the presence of people and recognising familiar faces, pets and cars. All video processing is done right on your device before it’s sent end‑to‑end encrypted to iCloud — so your recordings can only be seen by you and the people you share them with, not Apple.

Only you know what you're sayng to Siri

When you ask Siri something, your request is associated with a random identifier, not your Apple ID.

Siri uses on-device intelligence

HomePod mini works with your iPhone for requests like hearing your messages or notes, so they are completed on device without revealing that information to Apple.
