About mercer livestock

Mercer Livestock Auction, Inc. was built and established by John Kingerski in 1960 after the closing of the Pittsburgh Livestock yards in Pittsburgh, PA. The new site established in Mercer, PA was chosen due to its central location which also happened to be at the juncture of interstate highways 80 and 79.

From its inception in 1960 Mercer Livestock Auction was run by auctioneer, John Reimold (father and grandfather respectively of current owners, Trish and Rod Loomis). Following his father's footsteps Bob Reimold (brother and uncle respectively of Trish and Rod Loomis) took over the weekly auctioneering and ran the operations until 1980. Since 1968 Trish Loomis operated as office manager until 1972 when she became partner in the business with her son and current co-owner, Rod Loomis. Today, Rod Loomis (in addition to being co-owner in the business) is the principal auctioneer along with Justin Loomis.

Mercer Livestock Auction, Inc. sales are held every Tuesday at 11:00 AM. Receiving for Tuesday's sale is 8:00am through 9:00pm on Monday and 8:00am up to and including sale time on Tuesdays. Our average sale generally amounts to 500 animals passing through the doors of our ultra-modern facilities with many out-of-state buyers attending weekly. During special auctions, the number of animals can increase to as many as 1200.

The first Tuesday of each month is a special feeder cattle auction beginning at 11:00 specializing in Feeder Cattle and Finished Market Cattle followed by the regular cattle auction. We also run special dairy auctions, registered quality horse auctions, large machinery consignment auctions, buffalo auctions, and special events. Our facilities are also available for lease for special auctions.

We feature professional auctioneers, ringmen, fully computerized systems and scales, fully trained office and yard staff, and a full-time veterinarian. Our beautiful, modern and clean facility makes us the place to market your livestock. Just look for the huge Mercer Livestock Auction steer on route 19, one mile north of Mercer, PA.
