We are proud to be born and raised in St. Pete with saltwater running through our veins. We love our local seafood and support our local fishermen. And, while there are many seafood restaurants on our beaches, we felt that downtown St. Pete lacked a laid-back, come all/serve all restaurant with great seafood. From this simple thought, our little Trophy Fish was born.
Our good-sized fish lodge is located in the “inland marina” of the St. Pete Grand Central District. Our mission is simple: Provide our guests with the freshest fish while enjoying a cold Florida cocktail or beverage. Our casual atmosphere and eclectic design, or as we like to call our “bait shop chic” style, allows our guests to enjoy good friends, great food, and make memories.
While you may see a few consistent items at our quite large fish lodge, our focus is on providing the freshest fish, so our menu changes with the catch(es)-of-the-day. Since they call it fishing and not catching, there may be days with less fish than others. We recommend that our guests arrive earlier rather than later as the early bird catches the trophy fish. For this same reason, we do not take reservations.
As mentioned, our whopper of a fish lodge is… well… okay… really small, so space is limited (it may have grown over the course of writing this as any good fish story does). But, remember, it is not the size of the fish in the fight, it is the size of the fight in the fish!

Trophy Fish St. Pete Exudes Beachy Fun and Fresh Caught Seafood Fare
Trophy Fish in the Grand Central District is serving up some of the best seafood in St. Pete. This trendy spot tucked away on Central Avenue serves freshly caught, local seafood in a variety of preparations from fish tacos, oysters, shrimp skewers and more. Go for an excellent seafood fish dish and wash it down with one of their elevated and boozy tiki cocktails. Its a seafood destination that I love so much and definitely want to take all of my friends here immediately.
Lined with palm trees, coastal decor, and live music if youre lucky, the outdoor space at Trophy Fish exudes an unmistakable beach charm. When you arrive, youll want to head right to the counter to order and then snag a seat at the bar or one of the tables surrounding the bar. Theyll bring the food out to you. There are no servers here, so youll want to order a drink at the bar too.
Oh, did I mention its dog friendly so your pup can join in on the fun too?
The nautical vibe here makes you feel like youre at an elevated beach bar near DTSP. The bartenders are the best and create the most delicious drinks to give you a nice buzz while you wait for your food.
The Fin and Tonic is a Spanish style gin and tonic crafted with Hendricks Gin, Elderflower, citrus peel, juniper berries, cucumber and an edible flower. This is such a refreshing drink that will cool you right off on a hot summer day.
I always, and I mean always, order a margarita at Trophy Fish. I just absolutely love the tequila buzz while hanging out in such a cool, nautical space. They are fresh and amazing. Trust me.
The Small Bites portion of the menu includes hush puppies, fresh street corn, the famous fish tacos and more. Start here and youll be amazed.
The Wild Gulf Shrimp Skewers are served with a citrus rub and cajun remoulade. The seasoning and creamy drizzled sauce add a zesty flavor that will leave you wanting more. The wild gulf shrimp pieces were pretty large and had that nice pop when you bite into them. I will definitely be ordering these again and again.
The Smoked Peel N Eat Shrimp is a must-order if you say youre a true seafood lover. These are insanely fresh, infused with a smokey flavor, and taste even better when dunked in the chilled mezcal sauce. The Peel N Eat Shrimp need a cold beer, like one of their local brews on tap, to counter the smokey deliciousness.
Hush Puppies are a classic Southern side dish with fish. These warm balls of cornmeal, buttermilk, jalapeno, and corn dust are dreamy and so comforting. The sauce was perfectly sweet with a Cajun zing to it.
Kevin and Lori, the owners of St. Petersburg Foodies also love Trophy Fish, and have a contribution to this review as well. They said: We had a scrumptious early dinner and drinks at Trophy Fish. It was perfect weather for outdoor dining and they have really upped their game in their food offerings. We started with the Fish Spread, Clams & Corn, Fried Street Corn and the Grand Central Oysters. Then we shared the Mahi Mahi Day Boat Fresh Catch dinner blackened with grilled seasonal vegetables and crispy rosemary potatoes with a Cajun remoulade sauce. Everything was sooooo good but that fried street corn was absolutely incredible! Crunchy, sweet fried crack!
If you know me, you know that I always have to order fish tacos if theyre on the menu. The fish tacos at Trophy Fish exceeded my expectations completely. They come with three garlic grilled tortillas, pineapple cabbage, pickled onion, lime garlic, sriracha aioli and the catch of the day fish, blackened. The flavors are insanely tasty from the sweet pineapple cabbage paired perfectly with the spicy sriracha aioli. I will be ordering these time and time again.
When you order a Day Boat Fresh Catch, youll follow the steps on the menu on how youd like it prepared. You can either have it served normally on a plate or turn it into a sandwich or salad. We tried it served as an entree and as a salad.
Here we have the fresh catch blackened Mahi Mahi, with Yucca Fries and Pineapple Cabbage Slaw. Everything was outstanding and we especially loved the blackened seasoning.
This time, for the salad, we had the fish prepared with their homemade citrus rub and man was it refreshing. The flavor was delightful. This earthy salad comes with Tuscan kale, romaine, blistered tomatoes, charred pepper, mango, pickled onion, parmesan, chorizo and sourdough croutons. If youre looking for a salad packed with nutrients that bursts with flavors, Id highly recommend trying this out.
Of course, this pasta dish drew me in. The Captains Bucatini is pasta tossed in a creamy miso sauce of crab, smoked gulf shrimp with middle neck clams, roasted peppers and crispy chorizo breadcrumbs. This dish definitely had a smokey spice to it and I loved every single bite. The gulf shrimp was my favorite and they didnt skimp out on the portions at all. The clams were just as good too. If youre hungry, like really, really hungry, try this dish to fill you right up.
Seafood shines on pasta, sandwiches, salads, composed plates and more at Trophy Fish. The cocktail menu places a focus on tropical drinks, and the beer and wine lists include all of our favorites too. Trophy Fish is a trendy spot that is a great place to bring your out-of-town friends and family.
