Faculty participate in conferences and workshops on sustainability, including the University?s annual Green Summit, the Sustainable Office Practices program and The Natural Step, to enhance the ability to incorporate innovative and emerging trends.

Commitment to sustainability within our physical plant has become a priority. Initiatives include printer settings - the default setting for all student printers within the College is duplex; PC power conservation ? classroom and computer lab PCs within the College have aggressive power saving settings, and include ?sleeping? PC monitors. The lighting throughout the College is manually controlled and monitored.

3. Low Emitting Vehicles have more than 50 preferred parking spaces on campus. Electric vehicle charging stations are available on campus and are available to staff, faculty and students. Most buildings, including the Mendoza College of Business, operate using a digital thermostat and are not manually adjustable in order to regulate heating, cooling, and ventilation systems (HVAC) on campus. Single-stream recycling efforts continue to improve with indoor and outdoor containers. There are opportunities to recycle cardboard, Electronics and Toner Cartridges, Batteries and non-university cell phones, CFL Light bulbs. A new food waste system at the University of Notre Dame is poised to reduce nonconsumable food waste on campus by more than 2, pounds per day. Grind2Energy prepares food waste to be converted to clean, renewable energy, reducing waste as well as odors, pests and emissions Notre Dame is only the second school in the nation to invest in the innovative food-waste recycling system. Mendoza students describe each other as “enthusiastic, outwardly focused, detail oriented, conscientious when it comes to other people’s time,” and combine “diversity of thought and experiences” with the “like-mindedness of wanting to use business for the greater good.”

Students say South Bend is both “a fun town” and has “low cost of living” but enjoy that the campus is also within driving distance of Chicago, Indianapolis, and Detroit. Notre Dame’s prized football team is just part of the sports culture, which also rallies around “soccer, rugby, hockey, water polo, and lacrosse teams.” The campus offers “speechless beauty,” clubs are “active” and “provide many guest speakers and networking events,” and the “Family Life Committee does an excellent job of reach[ing] out to children and spouses to keep them engaged.” Tailgates also “provide a great venue for networking” with the “Notre Dame family” that is “a much more fun, diverse, and outgoing group than some may suspect to find at a Catholic institution.” Students regularly get together for activities like “potluck dinners, golf trips, beach days, and bowling.”

Foundational Knowledge Students in the MBA program are required to have a foundational knowledge that will facilitate learning advanced concepts. Foundation courses may have been taken in an undergraduate degree program or subsequent to the completion of the bachelor’s degree and must be completed with a grade of C or better. If the courses have not been completed prior to admission, students can still be admitted conditionally but must complete the undergraduate equivalent of these requirements early in their program of study. The following are the required MBA foundation courses:

The remaining 3 units may be satisfied by any BUS graduate elective approved by the graduate program advisor. Students wishing to pursue a double concentration must take 9 units of approved coursework for each concentration, for a total of 42 units towards the degree. Students concentrating in Media and Promotion must take all 12 units from the approved course list for that concentration. (Please note that acceptance into the Media and Promotion concentration requires satisfaction of additional criteria.**) Students desiring a broader study can elect to pursue a general degree and select any 12 units of electives approved by the graduate program advisor.

Fees to Repeat a Portion of the Academic Year

Students who are required to repeat a portion of their academic year for any reason must pay the fees associated with that term before they can continue their program. It is the responsibility of the student, if receiving a Canada Student Loan or a Sponsorship, to apply to the appropriate organization for a reassessment of funds to pay tuition for repeat terms. The student must also advise one of the Student Service Centres of any new funding to avoid late charges or penalties.

Tutoring and Academic Coaching

Fees are assessed to cover services provided by Academic Success Centre and Library Services. These tutoring and coaching services are provided to students with disabilities under the Federal Government&#;s &#;Canada Study Grant for Students with Disabilities&#; program. Eligible students can apply to have direct support costs funded.

Terms and Conditions

Payment of Program and Students’ Association Fees

Program Fees (tuition, lab and materials, technology, software, student service fees and endowment fees) and Students’ Association fees are payable on or before the academic term start date. Where a student registers after the academic term start date, program and Students’ Association fees are due and payable at the time of registration.

Sponsored Students

Where program/student fees are to be billed to a third party, a completed Sponsorship Authorization form is to be provided by the program deposit deadline. Fees payable by a sponsor are due upon receipt of invoice. Where fees are billed to a third party, any refund shall be returned directly to the third party.

Government Sponsored Student Loan Recipients

Students who have applied for a government sponsored loan are responsible for ensuring the Government Student Loan process is followed and their program/student fees are received by the College by noted deadlines.

Approved government sponsored student loans recipients will have their program/student fees automatically deducted from their student loans. The lending institution will forward the payment directly to the College if the proper process is followed.

Students who have not received their student loans by their program start date must contact one of the Student Service Centres to discuss payment arrangements. Failure to do so will result in the levy of a late fee.

Students whose loan applications are not approved are responsible for making payment arrangements immediately upon notification of non-receipt of the loan. Students are responsible for payment of their course in full, even if their loan application is not approved. All refund procedures and policies apply.

Employment Manitoba Assisted Students

Employment MB assisted students are responsible for paying their portion of program/student fees by the payment due date. Employment MB will remit the assisted portion of the program/student fees directly to RRC Polytech. If the Training Assistance Notification (TAN) Form is not received by the College on or before the payment due date, the student is responsible for the entire amount due and/or accrued late fee charges.

Refund Policies and Procedures

NOTE: Refunds may take up to eight weeks to process. Depending on the payment method, a refund may have to be processed through a third-party, which can increase the processing time by an additional weeks.

Full-Time Programs

(Excluding Contract Training and Regional Campus students*)

  • Withdrawal within the first 7% of the term &#; refund of % fees less non-refundable deposit where applicable.
  • Withdrawal between 7% and 25% of the term &#; refund of 50% fees.
  • Withdrawal after 25% of the term &#; no refund
  • Health and dental fees are fully refundable up to 30 calendar days from start of the program.

*Full-time Regional Campus students should contact staff at their campus for the refund policy.

Transfers

A student receiving permission to move from one full-time funded program within the College to another will have the unused portion of their program/student fees credited toward the fees for the new program. This does not include requests for a transfer of funds from full-time funded programs to Continuing Education or Online Education programs.

Applying For Refund/Withdrawal

Students who choose to withdraw from their program of studies, including those who choose not to return for an upcoming term, are responsible for the submission of a completed Full-Time Program Withdrawal Form.

The effective withdrawal date will be the date that the Full-Time Program Withdrawal Form is received by Red River College Polytechnic, and will determine any eligibility for refund. Students are responsible for all applicable fees up to the date the withdrawal form has been received by the College.

Refunds will be processed in the same manner as the original payment method; however cash and debit payments refunds will be made by cheque or directly deposit to your bank account.

Refunds of fees that have been paid with the proceeds of a government sponsored student loan or by a third party will be issued to the lender or third party.

Suspension of a College Program

Students who have applied for or have been accepted into a College program that is later suspended are eligible for a full refund of any program/student fees paid, including the deposit and application fees.

Part-Time and Online Education

Classroom Delivery

  • Partial refunds are available for courses (17 hours or more) up to the day before the start of the second class.
  • For workshops (16 hours or less), partial refunds are available eight calendar days prior to the first class.
  • Fill out the Part-time Withdrawal form.

Online Education

  • Partial refunds are available if the request is made within 10 calendar days from the start of the course.
  • The refund amount shall be the course fee less the $50 administration fee.

General Part-Time and Online Education Refund Policies

  • Refunds are subject to an administration fee.
  • Refunds will be issued in the same form as payment; cash refunds and debit card purchases will be paid by cheque.
  • All refund requests are now being processed through a centralized system. Approved refunds will be processed within 15 business days. During peak periods &#; Fall and Winter term starts &#; refunds will be processed within four weeks.
  • Original receipts must be presented for refund requests of non-tuition items (parking, fitness classes, tests, etc.)

Outstanding Debts

Refunds of program/student fees may be reduced by other outstanding debts, such as bookstore charges, parking fees, library fines, etc. Students who fail to pay their accounts within the specified deadlines may have their registration cancelled. College services including marks, diploma/certificate, and future registrations will be withheld until all financial obligations to the College have been met in full.

Tuition and Education Credit Certificate

For income tax purposes, T tax receipts will be available online at the end of February.

MBA Candidate Applies To 18 Business Schools In 3 Months

How many business schools should you apply to for your MBA? While there’s no magic number, submitting an MBA application requires a great deal of work. If you’re juggling multiple applications, you need a strategy. 

While most MBA applicants apply to around five business schools, Benjamin Bush, an incoming MBA student at the University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business, submitted a mammoth 18 applications while searching for his best fit MBA program.

Ben wrote 38 MBA essays, submitted 36 letters of recommendation, and spent $1, in MBA application fees—and that’s even with seven of the 18 schools waiving the fee!

Before embarking on his MBA journey, Ben completed his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Northern Arizona University and he’s been living in New York City since Between late and early , his MBA application process took days; months to be precise.

How did he manage 18 applications at the same time? Why did he apply to so many schools? Petia Whitmore, founder of MBA admissions consulting firm My MBA Path, caught up with Ben to find out.


Ben, how and when did your MBA application journey start?

It was an evening in September All great discussions begin in the kitchen, and this one was no exception. My mother handed me a cup of hot tea and asked quietly, ‘Have you thought again about your idea to get an MBA?’ I looked back at her, slightly stunned by the suggestion. I hadn't thought about getting an MBA for quite some time. 

My MBA idea in early had quickly disappeared as I spent two months flying between NY and CA watching my dear stepmother lose her battle with an aggressive cancer. Still grieving her death, I got the stunning news that my best friend had died in LA. One month later, I lost another cherished person in my life, my grandmother.

My original thoughts to pursue an MBA had centered around two conclusions. First, my bachelor's degree alone would not get me the income I wanted. Secondly, an MBA involves serious challenges, risks, and investments.

What was the initial set of MBA programs you targeted? How did this set evolve and why?

Initially pouring over statistics, I did a deep dive into post-graduation salary expectations at each university and cross-referenced that data with average GMAT scores and undergraduate GPAs of accepted students. 

What I found started to tell a different picture than what was found online. So I began to consider less costly programs that provided career outcomes with comparable salaries.

Finally, I made some adjustments based on what I felt was a good value-match. For me that meant a reputable university which was value-focused and seeking MBA candidates who want to have a positive worldly impact.

My final list was made consisting of 18 business schools:

That’s a long list! Why did you apply to so many business schools? 

I applied to so many because, in my undergraduate application process, I had seriously undervalued myself and the value of a top-tier education. While my equals attended prestigious undergraduate universities, I applied to and was accepted to just two unranked universities. 

Throughout my undergraduate education, I often wished I had applied to many more universities as at least then I would know the ceiling of what my options were. 

When I decided to pursue an MBA, I was set on learning from my undergraduate experience and finding my personal nexus of prestige and value. In order to thoroughly do that, I had to seriously apply to a large set of programs with a range of notoriety and value propositions. 


Managing applications to 18 business schools is not for the faint of heart. How did you approach the process? Did you use any tools?

I started by preparing a master spreadsheet that tracked the application process for each university, including the application deadlines and what was required to apply.

I then ordered the spreadsheet by submission deadline and made a calendar on a separate Excel document. The calendar had submission dates/times. I then gave myself one work date for each application.   

I think the organizational template is essential, even if you’re only applying to two or three programs. And you should make detailed notes of any correspondence with university officials.   

To get fee waiver codes, I attended as many online MBA events as possible, but even with seven waived application fees I still paid almost $1, in application fees.

Along the way, you encountered some successes and some rejections. How did you navigate through them?

Ultimately, after five months of grueling challenges, I encountered success. As decisions started coming back, whether acceptances, or denials, or waitlists, I would go back to why I initially started pursuing an MBA. No single denial or wait list ruined my day. I kept my focus on progressively building value. 

Along the way, I took multiple online courses. I learned balance sheet analysis, Free Cash Flow calculations, and environmental impact strategies. The creative education was fun. I taught myself how to create 3D environments via Blender. I picked up certifications in Amazon Web Services (AWS), and learned enterprise-level cloud service solutions.


What would you do differently if you were to start your MBA application all over again?

I would have taken a GMAT prep course. I would not have hired a professional to review my initial essay. The professional consult was interesting, but I wrote each one of my 38 essays. Fortunately, I love writing!

Looking back, I think I was too focused on rankings. Consequently, I was overly stressed about exam scores and communication pertaining to top universities. I would have asked myself these questions much earlier:

-                   What specifically do I want in an MBA program?

-                   Are international study opportunities important to me?

-                   Do I desire strong domestic opportunities in a certain sector?

-                   Is a weak alumni network a dealbreaker?

-                   Am I interested in leadership development opportunities?


Why did you choose Mendoza College of Business?

In the end, I found that The Mendoza College of Business at Notre Dame facilitates a strong core, value-focused education.
