'Mass Effect: Andromeda' "Earn Your Badge": New patch task appears bugged for players

Mass Effect: Andromeda's patch was the game's first major, post-release update. It introduced better facial animations for human and Asari characters and a wealth of multiplayer adjustments and improvements, as well as the promise of future patches dealing with community complaints about Hainly Abrams and a lack of same-sex romance options for Ryder. Players also reported about a new task called "Earn Your Badge" that is available for completion in the Nexus.

Normally, the promise of new content would always be exciting, but there's just one problem with Earn Your Badge: It's glitchy as all get-out and might not even be completable.

Mass Effect: Andromeda "Earn Your Badge": Players are having a lot of issues completing the new task

"Earn Your Badge" is a task you can accept on the Nexus post-patch from the angara Culture Centre near the docks, according to Reddit. From there, you have to head to Voeld and kill some remnants, at which point you'll be able to come back and talk to the quest giver for a reward.

In theory, that's how it should work. However, searching for the quest online will lead to any number of posts explaining that the quest doesn't work and that players on the PS4, Xbox One and PC are all having similar issues.

Mass Effect: Andromeda "Earn Your Badge": How to fix the bugged spawns in the quest

According to players, one of the main issues with the quest is killing the remnants on Voeld. If you do it too quickly, the game won't actually spawn in enough remnants for you to complete the quest. Annoying, but several redditors explained they managed to circumvent this bug by killing one of the remnants less quickly.

Redditor connollyuk91 amended a complaint they'd posted about the bugged spawn, writing, "Edit: to get the remainder of the remnant to spawn you have to not kill the destroyer too quickly as they appear linked to a timer of some sort?? Basically BioWare gave us a mission which said hey, kill these things really quickly, then the mission bugs if you do indeed kill things too quickly."

Mass Effect: Andromeda "Earn Your Badge": Can you even complete the quest?

Unfortunately, as of Friday afternoon, it doesn't appear so. While killing the remnants more slowly might help you complete that portion, it doesn't help most players having the second issue with the quest. The quest giver won't actually recognize that you've beaten the quest one you go back to them.

However, redditor TheEmpiresArchitect had an unorthodox solution that seemed to work for them:

After receiving the mission, I talked to the guy again and it acted as though I completed the quest. But I still had to go do it! So after I completed the 3 tasks (first try no bugs on spawns and whatnot) he said let's talk. Well since I had already talked to him prior it just autocompleted.

If you haven't picked up the quest yet, that may be worth giving a try if you're worried about not being able to complete it. Out of about three pages of confirmations on the Mass Effect Answers site, only one user stated that they were able to successfully complete the quest.

From the look of things, you might just be out of luck if you like having a clean quest log and have already accepted this quest. You'll get 'em in patch , BioWare.

Earn Your Badge

Locations: Nexus, Voeld

Note: At the time of writing, this mission has two bugs that often prevent mission completion.

Start this mission any time after the Angaran delegation arrives on the Nexus, by talking to Andraknor, in the Cultural Exchange. He'll offer you a challenge to see how your N7 heritage matches up to the special forces of the Heskaarl.

Accept the challenge and travel to Voeld. You'll have three navpoints waiting foryou- these can be completed in any order, but they all start by going to the designated location and activating the Heskaarl beacon there. Andraknor will come on comms and outline your challenge.

The westmost challenge is to defeat an Ancient Eiroch. Up to three, actually, depending on your level. Drack is good companion here, and any weapons that use hovering mods will be handy, as you'll be doing lot of jumping (or, alternatively, cloaking) to stay out of heir instakill clutches.

Any party and weapon can defeat these guys with patience, but you may want to leave behind Cora and Liam for this one- their charging melee attacks make them ripe for crushing (though they can be revived as normal).

Going clockwise, the next objetive is to hack the entire database of a Kett installation. This involves doing three hack-the-point challenges back-to-back, in the same base. No special enemies, so just remember to keep your head down, and don't let your team stray too far.

The last challenge is Remant extermination. Additionally, there's a bonus objective to taking them all out more quickly than Andraknor. Your enemies are mostly Assemblers and Observers, so piece of cake.

Note: Take out the Destroyer *last*. Kill it too quickly, and later waves may not spawn, leaving you with not enough kills to complete the mission.

When you're done, return to the Nexus, and talk to Andraknor. He'll be impressed by your skills and say you're welcome in the Heskaarl anytime. And then, nine time out of ten, the conversation will end, but the mission will fail to complete, and while Andraknor still gets a Talk cursor, activating it won't begin a conversation. Saving and reloading does not fix this error.

But at least you've got your pride in a job well done?

Earn Your Badge is a task unlocked on the citadel where you have to travel to Voeld and complete three combat encounters, after which you have to travel back and report to the quest giver. I did just that but the quest didn't complete or move on to the next step. I'm currently stuck with an objective to "speak with [quest giver]", but after my initial conversation I'm unable to engage him again even though the interaction triangle icon appears. For all intents and purposes the quest seems unable to be completed for me. And I have attempted to reload to a save prior to first talking to him. It doesn't work.
Right there with you. I completed the tasks and returned to the quest giver. I was referred to as a female sibling to the organization represented by the quest-giver (wow, speaking in spoiler-free-ese is exhausting), but the task did not register as complete. Multiple attempts to speak with the quest-giver proved unsuccessful.

Number Six

Weird, given the number of people who said this bugged out for them, I figured it was a fool's errand to try do this since I wouldn't be able to turn it in. But I did all the tasks, went back to the guy on the nexus, and it marked completed for me.

Maybe the order you do the tasks matters? I fought the fiends first, then did the kett base, and did the remnant last. I also ran around not killing the destroyer until all the remnant had spawned. Drack and Jaal were still fighting it though, so I guess I was lucky they didn't accidentally kill it before the last of the remnant spawned. But, it was still fast enough to beat Andraknor's time.

I didn't go back to him immediately though, after doing the three tasks, I was 82 points away from next level, so I just drove to the nearest group of Kett and killed them to get the next level. But after I did, I did immediately go to the Nexus and turn it in. So not sure what I did exactly for it to work for me, but that's what I did.

That's exactly how I did it. Same order, held the destroyer till last, had Drack and Jaal as team mates, beat the time.

So it's probably just random. There's a lot of people who report having next to no glitches and I find that experience completely counter to mine.

Mine was a bust as well.. staring at him right now and still won't complete..

I got it to complete. Although, I did encounter the glitch where it did not spawn the final wave. So I reloaded my previous save and followed the tip to leave the nullifire alone for a bit. Got the final wave to spawn and talked to andraknor

I've gotten no Nullifier spawning for me at all. That must be the last one I've been missing. It keeps leaving off at 14/15 killed but no enemies. I've not seen a single Nullifier.

there are multiple task glitches. I can't complete watchers or the shield upgrade one because of bugs.

I'm having similar problems with a few Tasks not marking complete even though I've done everything. Earn Your Badge, The Ghost of Promise and Remnant Scanner won't complete even though I've done them. It's a little frustrating, but I guess I should be happy it isn't any of the loyalty or primary quests.

I have this exact same error. If I figure out a solution I will let you know.

Mass Effect Andromeda - Side Quest: Earn Your Badge

I have not seen Olezhka so purposeful for a long time. In addition, to be honest, the prospect of making her husband the head of the company loomed pleasantly on the horizon. What did we lose in case of failure. A dubious relationship with your boss that we both stopped enjoying.

She groaned and, arching, pressed hard against the Wolf. And suddenly, getting up on his knees, Etienne lifted her legs high and put them on his shoulders. Her burning secret was spread out right in front of him. Green eyes widened in fear, filling with tears.
